Sam India-Gulermak Begins Yard Work for Delhi Metro Phase 4

Sam India Builtwell – Gulermak JV this week started setting up its casting yard in Delhi’s Majlis Park neighborhood for constructing a 7.473 km elevated extension of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Line-8) between Haiderpur Badli Mor and Ashok Vihar.

This development comes just a month after they were awarded with Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 project’s fifth major contract for Package DC-03R’s construction with a contract value of Rs. 766.12 crore and completion period of 30 months.

Besides constructing this section’s viaduct viaduct, Sam India – Gulermak will build siding lines, a connection to the existing Mukundpur Depot, and 4 stations at Bhalswa, Majlis Park (interchange with Pink Line), Azadpur (interchange with Pink & Yellow lines) and Ashok Vihar. The line’s viaduct will partly be integrated with a PWD flyover between Azadpur and Derawal Nagar on G.T. Road as well –

The yard is located adjacent to Majlis Park Station in North Delhi and will in the future churn out U-girders, I-girders, pier caps and parapet wall segments for the viaduct.

Package DC-03R is the third and penultimate package of the 38.235 km Magenta Line (Line-8)’s 28.92 km extension from Janakpuri West – RK Ashram. Prior contracts were awarded to CCECC – KEC JV for the Vikaspuri Ramp – Haiderpur-Badli Mor section (Package DC-01) and to HCC – VCCL JV for the Vikaspuri Park Shaft – Vikaspuri Ramp section (Package DC-06).

Bids for the construction of Package DC-05 – the next (and final) package of the Magenta Line’s extension are yet to be invited. That roughly 7 km underground section will consist of 6 stations at Derawal Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Pul Bangash (interchange with Red Line), Sadar Bazar, Nabi Karim and RK Ashram (interchange with Blue Line).

DMRC reported 1000 cr loss in lockdown recently. Any chance of project delays ?

Hi, there’s no impact. Revenue from ticketing goes into maintenance and loan servicing. Construction work is carried out through the government’s FY budget and foreign lender’s loan.

Have they dropped mukarba chowk station?

Yea, and that’s fine as it’s not a good idea to build a station in the vicinity of a road interchange. The drop-off/pick-up zone with rikshaws and autos lined up would have affected the flow of traffic.

Sir, what is the status of work at Tughlakabad- Aerocity line of Phase 4! Is DMRC doing something or sitting ducks?

Consists of 4 packages – 3 underground and 1 elevated.

The elevated package (Sangam Vihar – Saket G-Block) was awarded to YFC Projects. They’re currently setting up their casting yard.

Tender notices for the rest 3 are pending. I hear they require JICA’s approval. At the this rate, construction on them will begin no sooner than Q2 2021.

Do you think plans for Lajpat Nagar to Saket G block will be revived soon. I thought it to be a great route to decongest the Lal Bahadur Shastri marg and will also act as a link/delink to Aerocity- Tughlaqabad route.

DPR is ready and it first needs the Delhi government’s approval. I don’t think they’re interested right now, but you never know what they’ll do.

I also think it’s a great route and possibly the last piece to make the network look “complete” in south-east Delhi.
