1st Pier Caps Erected for Delhi Metro’s DC-02 & Mumbai Metro’s BC-02R
Towards the end of October, workers in Delhi and Mumbai erected their first pier caps for constructing the Delhi Metro’s Package DC-02 of Line-7’s 12 km extension between Maujpur – Majlis Park and for Mumbai Metro’s Package BC-02R of the 15.18 km Line-6 project between Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) – SEEPZ – Vikhroli.
Besides similar package numbers (number 2), co-incidentally these packages are for their city’s respective Pink Line projects. The pier caps in both cities are estimated to weigh approximately 60 tons. Key difference though is in the timeframe of when these milestones were achieved since the award of contracts – 11 months in Delhi versus 25 months in Mumbai.
Delhi Metro’s DC-02
This 12.098 km package’s first pier cap for Line-7’s construction was erected by Longjian – KEC JV on top of pier P325 in Jharoda Majra on October 26.
This package-level major milestone was achieved 11 months after Longjian – KEC JV was awarded Delhi Metro Phase 4’s second contract for Package DC-02 (Maujpur – Sonia Vihar – Majlis Park) in November 2019 with a contract value of Rs. 1,080 crore and completion period of 30 months.
Their scope of work includes building the entire Pink Line’s 12.098 km viaduct, bridge over the Yamuna River (work on it began in June), a PWD double-decker flyover and 8 stations at Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Sonia Vihar, Wazirabad Surghat, Jagatpur Village, Jharoda Majra and Burari.
Mumbai Metro’s BC-02R
This 4.329 km package’s first pier cap for Line-6’s construction was erected by MBZ-EIIL JV on top of pier P373 in the Powai Lake neighborhood on October 24.
This package-level major milestone was achieved 25 months after MBZ – Eagle Infra India Ltd was awarded Mumbai Metro Line-6’s second contract for Package BC-02R (Mahakali Caves – Powai Lake) in September 2018 with a contract value of Rs 372.22 crore and completion period of 30 months. Things here are clearly running way behind schedule.
Their scope of work includes building the viaduct of Line-6’s middle section from chainage 5257.40m to 9586.50m with 5 stations Maha Kali Caves, SEEPZ Village, Saki Vihar Road, Rambaug & Powai Lake.
J Kumar Infraprojects working on Line-6’s other two packages has already moved on to launching U-girders between successive piers. The first U-girder for Package BC-03 was erected in May 2020 (view images) and the first U-girder for Package BC-01R1 was erected in October (view images).
