1st U-Girder Launched for Mumbai Metro Line-6’s Package 2

A few hours ago, MBZ – Eagle Infra India (MBZ-EIIL) JV erected the first two 25m U-girders for Package BC-02R of Mumbai Metro’s 15.18 km Line-6 which will connect Swami Samarth Nagar in Lokhandwala with Vikhroli through 13 elevated stations.

This package-level major milestone, recorded at piers P373-P374 in the city’s Powai Lake neighborhood was achieved 5 months after the first pier cap was erected on top of P373. Launch work for these 140MT girders was carried out by Sunder Cranes.

MBZ-EIIL was awarded Mumbai Metro Line-6’s contract for Package BC-02R (Mahakali Caves – Powai Lake) in September 2018 with a contract value of Rs 372.22 crore and completion period of 30 months. Things here are clearly running way…way behind schedule.

Their scope of work includes building the viaduct of Line-6’s middle section from chainage 5257.40m to 9586.50m with 5 stations Maha Kali Caves, SEEPZ Village, Saki Vihar Road, Rambaug & Powai Lake.

Due to Mumbai’s challenging site conditions typically the first girder has been launched 12-18 months after contracts are issued, and this launch at the 30 month mark is a big aberration.

J Kumar Infraprojects, working on Line-6’s other two packages, moved on to launching U-girders in 2020. The first U-girder for Package BC-03 (Swami Samarth Nagar Circle – Mahakali Caves) was erected in May 2020 (view images), and the first U-girder for Package BC-01R1 (Powai Lake – Vikhroli) was erected in October (view images).

30 months to erect first U-girder = they should be having a lot of girders cast/ready in the yard = henceforth, erection pace is expected to be fast..

how many pier-caps ready to receive the girders? how many U-girders in total?
What’s the contractual completion date for this package (02R)?

will it be possible to complete the three civil packages by 2022-end??… thereby commissioning by 2023-end (or early 2024)?

…the Metro Viaduct on JVLR, next to the Powai Lake – it will be sight to behold during the monsoons. Third rail electrification (in place of OHE) would have given it a more aesthetically pleasing look..

Any contractor after signing the agreement is bound to complete the works per terms of contract. Any delay or cost escalation can’t be allowed. Though, conceding to covid protocol, some reasonable delay can be allowed as the situation was unforeseen and force majeure clause is aapplicable, cost escalation demand should be rejected.

    Hi,

Can you update the status of Mumbai Metro 2B and 7? The work seems to have stopped completely since 15-20 days.
