Mumbai Metro Line-9’s 1st U-Girder Launched at Thakur Mall

A few hours ago, J Kumar Infraprojects and Sunder Cranes erected the first two 25m U-girders for constructing Mumbai Metro’s 11.38 km Line-9 (northern leg of Red Line) which will connect Dahisar East with Mira Bhayandar through 8 stations.

This major milestone was recorded at piers P63 – P64 located right across from Thakur Mall near Pandurang Wadi Station’s site. Back on New Year’s Eve, the 9 meter tall P63 was the line’s first pier to receive a 60 MT pier cap.

The contract for Line-9’s construction under package CA-48 – a northern extension of the under construction 16.5 km Line-7 – was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects by the MMRDA in January 2020 after they had emerged as the lowest bidder for this line and Line-7A (southern extension of Line-7) in September 2019.

Their scope includes the construction of 3 double-decker viaducts on Kashmira Road measuring 1.5 km, 1.1 km and 754m for vehicles and metro trains, and 8 stations at Dahisar East (new station box), Pandurang Wadi (interchange with Line-10), Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Meditya Nagar, Shaheed Bhaghat Singh Garden and Subhash Chandra Bose Ground.

Here are some snaps. J Kumar’s team will eventually launch a total of approximately 700 U-girders for this line:

Due to Mumbai’s challenging site conditions typically the first girder has been launched 12-18 months after contracts are issued, and this fits right in at the 14th month. Such launches will now become a nightly affair.

How many Girders will be required for Line 9?

  2. Himanshu says:

Who is GC for this line?

  3. Nadeem Naqvi says:

How soon is this line be operational from ?

    • Clevin Gomes says:

October 2024 will be a perfect deadline as it will also have a Double Decker Corridor, which will take time.

  4. Anwar Khan says:

On this line station are not that convenient to passengers. Instead of pandurang wadi Delta garden station was needed as it would have help lot of passengers who stay from delta garden to srushti area.

  5. Zahid Khan says:

Sir, It will be recommedable if the Metro can be operational earlier by end of 2022, it will make life easier for residents of Mira Bhyandar

  6. Narendra Shaha says:

Why is this word ‘launch’ used instead of erect? Correct technical term is erect, as in erection of any strucutral member.

Launch is used when you start something that is already finished, like launch an ad, or launch a ship in water.

Just my opinion. Reading would be better with correct terminology.

Useless, no stoppage between Sai baba Nagar and Bhagat singh garden. Stupid planning.

    • Clevin Gomes says:

Bwtween Sai Baba Nagar and Bhagat Singh garden, there will be a big metro station at Golden nest which will have 4 platforms where the line will divide into 2 parts, the main line to NSCB Stadium and branch line to Inderlok.

      • Mayank says:

We cant see any construction towards indralok side, so i dont think there is another route for indralok rather than it is been constructing towards bhayander fatak road

        • Clevin Gomes says:

I think they have made changes. Bcoz, turning towards right to Inderlok may require demolition of residential buildings which is unaffordable to be prescise

    • partha saradhi says:

Meditya nagar station there just before golden nest.

The metro has screwedup the western express highway. Like in every other metro city in india, they could have built an elevated expressway from bandra to virar, with entry/exit ramps for every suburb. Or made an underground metro from andheri to virar.

    • TMRG says:

Yeah, not happy with how this WEH line has been designed. I can’t remember the exact location, but in one case – a portal’s pier sits right in the middle of a lane?!

With 90% of Mumbai’s new network going to be elevated, we need to introspect a little on whether our cities are being made livable or not.

  9. Earl Tauro says:

Hello TMRG! On 1st April 2021 Kochi Water Metro Recieved its first commuter boat built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. I think you should make a post for this news Update too. BTW if you want some details you can take from my YouTube video. Link:

    • TMRG says:

Thanks – not really interested in this water “metro”. It’s essentially a ferry service which coastal cities have in an organized / unorganized manner.
