SNC Casts Bangalore Metro ORR Line Package 2’s 1st Pier
Shankaranarayana Constructions (SNC) this week cast their first pier in Doddanekundi to construct Bangalore Metro’s 56 km Blue Line on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The city’s new Blue Line by BMRCL is being developed in Phase 2A (ORR Line) and Phase 2B (Airport Line) to connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations.
This feat by SNC for the ORR Line’s 8.377 km Package 2 (Kodibeesanahalli – KR Puram) was recorded for Pier number ORP-473 located opposite Bagmane Tech Park. The pier stands 13.7 meters tall and will have its precast pier cap placed in the coming months to support U-girders.
This isn’t the first pier for the ORR Line though. Afcons Infrastructure working on Package 1 cast their first pier earlier this month between Bellandur and Ibblur – see details and a snap prior to casting.
SNC was awarded ORR Line Package 2’s Rs. 623.55 crore contract in May 2021 with a tight 27 month deadline.
Their scope includes constructing the line’s Kodibeesanahalli – KR Puram section’s 8.377 km viaduct, 7 elevated stations at Kodibeesanahalli, Marathahalli, ISRO, Doddanekundi, DRDO sports complex, Saraswathi Nagar and K R Puram, a 1.097 km depot-line linking to the existing Baiyapanahalli Depot and a 0.30 km pocket track.
Meanwhile, I hear NCC Ltd. has started test piling works across all 3 civil packages of the 36 km Phase 2B (KR Puram – Hebbal – Bengaluru Airport). Stay tuned for a post on that with snaps!

This is quite encouraging. Given that blue line doesn’t have land acquisition issues, do you reckon the 27 month timeline for civil work can be met?
I understand the stations at airport might take longer but given the current progress do you expect most of this line can be made functional in next 3 years?
Well, I had observed work on metro station at airport was going on briskly, much ahead at other places.
I’m looking at it opening no sooner than 2025. Both contractors are already running behind on key dates outlined in the contract. For example, first pier was supposed to be cast 140 days, but it’s already been ~250 days since LOA was issued on May 24, 2021.
Quick systems tendering has never been BMRCL’s forte either due to anemic decision making or lack of funding, so 2025 might also be too optimistic.
I think Afcons will complete this line ahead of SNC. This is SNC’s first metro project..have to see how they perform
It’s bcoz of the 3rd wave that came in between. Otherwise everything would have been fast. Since third wave is the Final, the work can pick up pace soon, from March onwards
Bmrcl must take learn from Kanpur metro to construct metro quickly
Yes. Sure they have learnt. U-girders and Acquisition of Majority of Property before construction
I am happy to be wrong, but looking at the size of the piller in the above picture, I feel it’s size is very thin, when compared to the thickness of the other lines piller in the existing metro line….
The pillar is correct only.
Yup, but that’s not something to worry about.
BTW, the supply of CRRC coaches will be delayed it seems. Hope BEML itself starts making CBTC coaches like they did for Delhi Metro OR Hope the Issue gets solved soon, if Beml is not interested in making more coaches.
Also, the design of the CRRC Trains hasn’t been revealed yet.
already reveled . pls check in Bangalore section

Keeping Covid 19 and restriction around I am sure this will pick up pace
Looking forwards for early completion ..
