Bangalore Metro Challaghatta & BIEC Extn’s Track Plinth Work Begins

Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. last week began casting the track plinth for 2 key elevated extensions of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.

These extensions in south-west and north-west Bengaluru include:

  • 1.314 km remaining section of Purple Line’s Reach 2B connecting Kengeri Station and Challaghatta Station – built by Soma Enterprise Ltd.
  •  3.031 km extension of the Green Line’s Reach 3C connecting Hesaraghatta Cross (formerly Nagasandra) and Madavar (formerly BIEC) – built primarily by Simplex Infrastructures Ltd.

Texmaco was awarded Phase 2’s Rs. 521.76 crore contract for its track-work system in July 2018. This includes ballastless tracks within all elevated viaducts & tunnels, and ballasted tracks within the project’s 5 new depots.

Flash-butt welding of tracks for both sections (17628m and 6000m respectively) was completed in February 2022.

At this time I see both extensions opening up no sooner than the first quarter of 2023.

Hey TMRG, any update on the progress of civil work at Tin Factory? The extension of purple line to Whitefield which is going to be massive is dependent on the civil work getting completed at Tin Factory. Hoping it’s progressing at a decent pace.

I went to the airport via kr puram and saw the progress. It’s happening at a good pace, but really doubt it will be completed by December 2022.

The viaduct between KR Puram and Tin Factory Stn is almost complete. They had to re-engineer the piers to accomodate the Airport Line, which took a while. Work along the lake is also going well. Unfortunately, there are still severe delays at the section where the viaduct crosses over the railway line.

Even ramping up work from baiyappanahalli metro station started 2-3 weeks before. Existing tracks on ground level being removed. I think it will take more time than committed.

    Hey TMRG,
Can you please publish an article on the recent safety concerns raised by CMRS, Western Zone, Mumbai regarding Mumbai Metro 7 line? Those are some serious safety concerns. Commuters safety is at stake if not fixed by MMRDA before inauguration. No media is covering it properly and even you are turning a blind eye. Sad to see. Please don’t just cover only sweet news also look at bitter news sometimes.
