NCC Casts Pune Metro Reach 2 Viaduct’s Final Segment

NCC Ltd. this week celebrated casting the final box segment for the 7.15 km Reach-2 section’s viaduct of Pune Metro’s Aqua Line (14.667 km Line-2)

Construction for Reach 2 (Vanaz – Civil Court) of 31.254 km Pune Metro Phase 1 project was awarded to NCC in August 2017. The first segment was launched on Paud Road in March 2018 using the underslung construction method with a mobile crane.

NCC utilized a casting yard in Tathawade to support this section’s construction from where I estimate approximately 2600 segments were cast.

Reach 2’s 4.35 km Priority Section between Vanaz – Garware College was just inaugurated by PM Modi in March. This final segment will go towards finishing the pending viaduct between Garware College and Civil Court.

Each segment typically has a length of 3m, top width of 8.5m, bottom width of 3.5m, and weighs approximately 37 MT. Like the segments cast in Nagpur, segments in Pune have also been integrated and cast along with a parapet wall (unique in Indian metros) to cut down construction time, transportation time and the purchase cost of separate casting molds.
