Afcons Begins Work on Delhi Metro Silver Line’s Underground Section
Afcons Infrastructure last week officially launched construction work on Delhi Metro’s 23.622 km Silver Line which will connect Aerocity – Tughalakabad via 16 stations.
After building a guide-wall, the team lowered the first reinforced cage to form the diaphragm wall (D-wall) around the Airforce TBM Launching Shaft near Sangam Vihar Station.
This development comes 5 months after the firm was awarded a Rs. 1669.20 crore contract for Delhi Metro Phase 4‘s Package DC-07 by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Since then the firm has mobilized men and machinery, subcontracted standard penetration tests (SPT) to CEG Test House, and carried out barricading works at various station sites.
Their 6.981 km Package DC07 will connect Sangam Vihar Station’s east-end and Sarita Vihar Depot via 3 stations at Maa Anandmayee Marg, Tughlakabad Railway Colony, and Tughlakabad where it will form an interchange with the Violet Line’s station built in Phase 2.
A short inconsequential video from the site was posted by DMRC here.
Afcons will be constructing a total of 8 tunnels for which DMRC requires a minimum of 5 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to be deployed. Their supplier remains unknown to me, but if I had to guess it’ll most likely be Herrenknecht based on their historic partnership (eg. Kolkata Metro, Bangalore Metro, Chennai Metro & Mumbai Metro).
