SNC Launches Bangalore Metro ORR Line’s 1st U-Girder
Shankaranarayana Constructions (SNC) on Saturday night erected their first U-girder in Mahadevapura for constructing Bangalore Metro’s 56 km Blue Line on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The city’s new Blue Line by BMRCL is being developed in Phase 2A (ORR Line) and Phase 2B (Airport Line) to connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations.
The 27.90m long girder weighs 164 MT and was placed on top of piers ORP-473 and ORP-474, located opposite Bagmane Tech Park, for the line’s 8.377 km Package 2 (Kodibeesanahalli – KR Puram).
SNC had cast their first girder at Kacharakanahalli near Whitefield in February from where approximately 600 girders, ranging from 18m to 28m, will be cast from two casting bays.
The 13.7m tall piers on the ORR’s median were cast in January & February, and had 65T pier caps erected on top last month.
BMRCL awarded ORR Line Package 2’s Rs. 623.55 crore contract to SNC in May 2021 with a tight 27 month deadline.
SNC’s scope includes constructing the line’s Kodibeesanahalli – KR Puram section’s 8.377 km viaduct, 7 elevated stations at Kodibeesanahalli, Marathahalli, ISRO, Doddanekundi, DRDO sports complex, Saraswathi Nagar and K R Puram, a 1.097 km depot-line linking to the existing Baiyapanahalli Depot and a 0.30 km pocket track.
Some nice aerial images can be viewed on Christin Philip Mathews’ Twitter account here. Per his tweet:
According to Shankaranarayana Constructions (SNC), 40 U-girders for ORR Metro ready at its casting yard so far. Of the 321 piers between Kodibeesanahalli and KR Puram on ORR, 33 completed so far.
Such launches will now become a regular nightly affair in the city. On Monday, SNC erected the 2nd U-girder:

Hey TMRG
Thanks for the update on piers. More than 10% piers are done. Do you have a similar update on Afcons as well? How are they progressing with the construction?
AFCONS is far behind, largely due to delay by GAIL and KPTCL in shifting utilities. Saga of sloppy and slow prerequisite work by GAIL and KPTCL is chronicled in these 2 links …

This is sick…kptcl engineers should be suspended and fine imposed on them instead of they imposing fine on bmrcl
Afcons has so far cast 5 piers with 2 pier caps placed. No two packages are alike. Each faces unique challenges often not in the contractor’s control as highlighted by Venkat above.
Even Afcons are doing decent progress they have come up with tens of pillars at CSB station and have picked up piling where ever possible. Piling is completed between HSR 5th Main and 9th Main they may take up erection work sooner.
Good to know!
Hey TMRG
Will you be covering the Bengaluru Suburban Railway? It has evolved into something that is Metro-like or RRTS-like (albeit with lesser frequency).
Hi – yes, but only major contracts and civil milestones. Have setup an info page here: https://themetrorailguy.com/kride-bengaluru-suburban-rail-project-route-map-fares-tenders-status-updates/
Hi @TMRG
Any latest updates on the Byappanahalli to Whitefield
Hi @TMRG:
Any updates on Byappanahalli to Whitefield?
Nothing major at this time. Tin Factory hole is being plugged although I hear fabrication of a few steel beams will take time.
