4 Bidders for Bangalore Metro Phase 2’s 72 Coach Contract

Per Deccan Herald, 4 firms – Alstom Transport, BEML, Mitsubishi Electric and Titagarh Wagons have submitted bids to supply 72 new coaches for the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.

These coaches of contract 6RS-DM will be deployed exclusively on the 19.143 km Yellow Line (Reach 5) which will connect RV Road – Bommasandra via 16 stations. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) intends to run them as 12 train-sets in a 6-car configuration out of Hebbagodi Depot.

CRRC was originally awarded Phase 2’s 216 coach rolling stock contract in December 2019 and had committed to manufacture 204 coaches (34 trains) in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. A ground breaking ceremony had been conducted twice, but the firm failed to setup the plant or tie up with a local partner.

With that contract still embroiled in a legal battle, BMRCL invited tenders for this new contract in April with a 243 week (4.66 year) deadline.

Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of 72 Nos. of Standard Gauge Metro Cars and Training of Personnel under Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited Project Phase -2

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely supplier.

BMRCL plans to deploy the 72 new coaches from this contract alongside 42 new coaches it will receive from BEML. At this time I don’t see the Yellow Line opening up anytime prior to Q4 2023.

This DH report is wrong..last date of bid submission is July 18th and few firms are yet to submit bid.. Mitsubishi electric is a propulsion supplier to BEML, they don’t make trains on their own in India

Reach 5 is slated to open in mid 2023. How this tender is going to help with delivery timelines spread across 4 years?

they can borrow metro coaches from delhi metro for some time to have the operation of train now as many part of it is in completion stage and no wait for coaches. depot is also in good progress

Coaches can not be borrowed as there is a difference in operating power between Rolling stock of DMRC and BMRC

DMRC themselves don’t have additional coaches imo apart from red and blue line frequency is meh , red line after 2019 extension frequency has decreased drastically , Green line just sucks due to inderlok and kirti nagar diversion , pink and magente both have 5-7 line frequency

Noticed that the work progressing on the ORR section between Silk board to KRPuram. Here SN construction seems to be faster than AFCONS. But the line will get operational only if both sync and get completed in tandem. Hope the project management team gets the act in place to ensure there is no undue delay.
