HCC-KEC Casts Chennai Metro Line-5’s 1st Pier at Kovilambakkam

Hindustan Construction Company – KEC International JV last week cast their first pier in Kovilambakkam for Chennai Metro Phase 2 project’s 47 km Line-5 connecting Madhavaram – Sholinganallur.

The consortium was awarded the project’s 11.61 km Package C5-ECV-03 (Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur) in November 2021 with a contract value of Rs. 1122 crore and deadline of November 2024 (36 months).

The team began test piling works right before 2021 ended between Echangadu and Kovilambakkam stations, and then began piling work in March 2022.

The first of 436 piers for the viaduct, P-672, stands 11.25 meters tall.

Besides constructing the viaduct from from Chainage 33710 m to 45320m in South Chennai, their scope includes 11 elevated Stations at Madipakkam, Kilkattalai, Echangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam Koot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcot.

    Yes! Construction by HCC is at brisk pace, l&t also doing a great work for red line, cmbt to alandur section. Work betn madhavara and Anna nagar seems to be slow, only barricades are placed.

    OMR stretch is not yet started. People working in IT will use metro a lot and they don’t mind paying high charges as long as the journey is fast and comfortable with AC. Very evident with 570S AC bus service. I do not understand why metro is running parallel with MRTS train. We can have 1 or 2 interchange stations and run metro via different route which will give us more coverage.

      Metro and mrts lines run only parallel upto thiruvanmiyur. Metro line goes elevated at taramani after mrts line takes a right shift.

    What is the status report of Airport Line 1 extension to Kilambakkam Metro ⁉️ 🍁 Why nobody is concern about it ‼️ Like OMR IT = GST why CMRL, State govt & Centre is mum on this ⁉️⁉️😔😔😔
