Afcons Casts Delhi Metro Silver Line’s 1st Tunnel Segment for DC-07
Afcons Infrastructure on Monday began pouring concrete to cast the first batch of tunnel ring segments for Delhi Metro’s 23.622 km Silver Line which will connect Aerocity – Tughalakabad via 16 stations.
The firm is responsible for constructing 65.1 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project’s 6.981 km Package DC07 which will connect Sangam Vihar Station’s east-end and Sarita Vihar Depot. Its Rs. 1669.20 crore contract was awarded by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in January 2022 with a 42 month deadline.
Afcons has partnered up with Cooper Turner Beck group to supply segment casting accessories to their casting yard. From back of the hand calculations, I estimate they will churn out at least 6300 segments to build this section’s twin tunnels.
Afcons’ scope also includes constructing 3 underground stations at Maa Anandmayee Marg, Tughlakabad Railway Colony, and Tughlakabad where it will form an interchange with the Violet Line’s station built in Phase 2.
Afcons will be constructing a total of 8 tunnels for which DMRC requires a minimum of 5 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to be deployed. I hear they’ll use only 4 – a mix of refurbished Robbins and Herrenknecht machines. If someone has more details, then leave a comment below or shoot me a message via the Contact page.
