Afcons’ Delhi Metro Phase 4 TBMs 367 & 372 Pass Factory Tests
Tunnel boring machine manufacturer Robbins this month completed factory acceptance tests (FAT) on TBM 367 and TBM 372 for constructing the 65.1 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project.
Both refurbished 6.5 m diameter Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machines will be deployed by Afcons Infrastructure. They were previously deployed to build Singapore MRT and then brought to Robbins’ yard located in Gurgaon’s Sector 74 (view on Google Maps).
TBM 367 on Magenta Line
Afcons will deploy TBM 367 along with 3 other machines to work on Package DC-05 of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line’s 28.92 km Janakpuri West – RK Ashram extension.
This 7.46 km underground section connects a ramp north of Derawal Nagar with RK Ashram via 6 stations at Derawal Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Pulbangash (interchange with Red Line), Sadar Bazar, Nabi Karim & Ramakrishna Ashram Marg (interchange with Blue Line).
Afcons was awarded Package DC-05’s Rs. 2481.50 crore contract by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in January 2022 with a 42 month deadline.
TBM 372 on Silver Line
Afcons will deploy TBM 372 along with another Robbins machine and 2 Herrenknecht machines to work on Package DC-07 of the Delhi Metro’s 23.622 km Silver Line connecting Aerocity – Tughalakabad via 16 stations.
Package DC-07 will connect Sangam Vihar Station’s east-end and Sarita Vihar Depot via 3 stations at Maa Anandmayee Marg, Tughlakabad Railway Colony, and Tughlakabad where it will form an interchange with the Violet Line’s station built in Phase 2.
Package DC-07’s Rs. 1669.20 crore contract was awarded in January 2022 with a 42 month deadline.
For DC-07, the other Robbins machine getting ready for FAT is 364. I hear Afcons will deploy TBM S-1264 (Varada) from Bangalore Metro’s Phase 2 and TBM S-711 from Chennai Metro’s Phase 1.
Earlier this week, Afcons began casting tunnel ring segments at their yard – see details and images.
