5 Bidders for Hyderabad Metro Airport Line’s General Consultant Work

Five consortia have submitted pre-qualification applications for the General Consultant (GC) contract of Hyderabad Metro’s Airport Express Line which will connect Mindspace Junction with Rajiv Gandhi International Airport via 10 stations.

This 32 km semi-high speed rail line of Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project will be funded by Telangana Government and executed by HAML (Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd). Its foundation stone was laid by Telangana’s Chief Minister on December 9, 2022.

Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd. (HAML) had invited expression of interest (EOI cum RfQ) on December 1, 2022. They expect the assigned consultant to be onboard for 36 months and speedily implement this line through assistance in design, supervision, safety, quality control and contract management.

  • AECOM India + Egis Rail (France) + Egis India
  • Ayesa (Spain) + Nippon Koei (Japan) + Aarvee Associates
  • Consulting Engineers Group + Korea National Railway (South Korea)

All 5 applications will now be evaluated. Consortia that qualify will in the coming months be issued Request for Proposal (RfP) documents to participate in the next round of the bidding process.

This mostly elevated line along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will run 2.5 km underground at the airport within Hyderabad Aerocity. It is expected to cover the distance from Gachibowli in the city to RGIA in 20 minutes with trains operating at a maximum speed of 120 kmph.

Some of the stations on the line include Mindspace Junction, Bio-Diversity Junction, Nanakramguda, Narsingi, Manchirevula, TS Police Academy, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Airport Cargo station and RGIA Terminal.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd. (HMRL) recently appointed 2 survey teams to expedite pre-construction activities for the line. Its MD tweeted that the operational Blue Line will be extended from Raidurg to Mindspace Junction, roughly a kilometer, in order for an interchange to be constructed with the bottom 2 levels reserved for the new Airport Express Line and the top 2 levels for the Blue Line.

Better route to city center would have been MGBS – Falaknuma – RGIA or
Nagole – LB Nagar – RGIA

Current proposal is better than LB Nagar extension. Green line extension has a case over both but that’s a really tough task through old city.

Offcourse you both are right but all New road projects like signal free and Express ways alloting only in Software areas, there are plenty of Other industries which is contributing more income to Govt, Other area people expecting simple road development like filling pot holes, bottle necks in major Signals, 10-15ft widening is enough instead of spending worth of Crs on flyovers, these all small corrections pending since so many years, just because of non coordination between internal departments majorly electrical, GHMC and R&B…..it’s my Openion

When has widening roads ever solved traffic problems.
For the first few months it will look good and congestion will reduce. After 6-10 months, same level of congestion because there is something known as induced demand.
People who would earlier decide not to travel will also start using the road and hence render the increased capacity useless in terms of saving travel time.

There should be developments through out the Hyderabad instead of a particular “IT” hub other parts of the people are eagerly waiting for developments in their areas too. They may hay challenges too to make road widening, flyover, metro, but govt can solve the issues
