SYSTRA-DB Awarded Mumbai Metro Line 10 & 12’s General Consultancy
SYSTRA MVA Consulting – DB Engineering & Consulting JV last week was awarded the General Consultant (GC) contract for Mumbai Metro‘s 9.20 km Line-10 (Gaimukh – Shivaji Chowk) and 20.7 km Line-12 (Kalyan – Taloja).
The consortium had emerged as the preferred bidder for the contract through the Quality and Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method in July 2022. Their bid of Rs. 265.10 crore and total score of 91.06 beat other contenders – AECOM – HILL JV and AYESA – KNR JV.
The appointment of SYSTRA-DB JV to assist Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expected to pave the way for both lines’ speedy implementation through assistance in design, supervision, safety, quality control and contract management for both civil and systems work.
Tender No: MMRDA/Metro- PIU/0002141
Brief Scope: GC-07A Appointment of General Consultant for Civil and System works of Mumbai Metro Line 10 (Gaimukh – Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road) and Mumbai Metro Line 12 (Kalyan- Taloja) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA, Mumbai.
MMRDA expects SYSTRA-DB to to stay on board for 54 months – the expected duration of both projects.
Mumbai Metro’s Line-10 (Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk) will be built as a western extension of the 35.2 km Line-4/4A (Green Line) with 4 stations at Gaimukh Reti Bundar, Varsova Char Phata, Kashimira, Shivaji Chowk.
Line-12 (Kalyan to Taloja) will be built as a 20.75 km southern extension of the 24.95 km Line-5 (Orange Line) with 17 stations at Ganesh Nagar, Pisvali Gaon, Golavali, Dombivli MIDC, Sagaon, Sonarpada, Manpada, Hedutane, Kolegaon, Nilaje Gaon, Vadavali, Bale, Waklan, Turbhe, Pisarve Depot, Pisarve, Taloja. The line’s depot is planned at Pisarve.
This is an encouraging development as both line’s foundation stones were laid back in September 2019. That said, I don’t see the tendering process starting for either line’s civil construction before Q3 2023. Actual construction work is expected to start no sooner than 2024. Long way to go.

54 months? That’s optimistic.
Yup! This line has its own depot, but most likely they’ll drag its opening until L5’s Bhiwandi – Kalyan opens.
TMRG, what’s your opinion on Maharashtra Govt decision to shift the Depot of Line 9 to Uttan, and what do u think will be the best alignment to be follow as Uttan Rd is not Wide enough for Metro Piers.
Let’s see what the feasibility report says. Uttan Road is the only way in and out of that area – so that’s the only road alignment possible.
