MEIL – HCC Wins Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train BKC Station’s Work

March 13, 2023: NHSRCL today awarded MEIL – HCC JV with Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Package C1’s Rs. 3680.96 crore contract.

December 28, 2022 Original Post: Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd. – Hindustan Construction Company JV today emerged as the lowest bidder to construct Bandra Kurla Complex Station of the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train).

This terminus station of the 1.03 km long Package C1 will be built using the cut and cover method between chainage -0.255 to 0.775. The 467m long station area within it will have 6 platforms of 425m length to accommodate 16 coach bullet trains.

India’s National National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) had had re-invited bids for BKC Station’s civil construction in July 2022 with an unknown estimate and 1638 day (4.48 year) completion timeframe. Technical bids were opened in November to reveal 4 bidders.

Brief Scope: Design and Const. of Civil and Buildings Works on Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis for Double Line High Speed Railway for Mumbai Underground Station, Cut and Cover Tunnel and Shaft-1 from MAHSR Km. -0.255 to Km. 0.775 at BKC in Maharashtra

The station box will consist of 3 levels – service floor, concourse and platform at a depth of 24m below ground level.

The assigned contractor for BKC Station will also be required to build a tunnel boring machine (TBM) retrieval shaft on the eastern-end. This is where TBMs used in Package C2 will complete their underground journey.

Additional preliminary design renders can be viewed here on NHSRCL’s Twitter page

Without NHSRCL’s estimate, I can’t provide an assessment of how MEIL-HCC JV’s bid is placed. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. If the bid falls within NHSRCL’s estimate, then we should see MEIL-HCC JV starting preliminary construction work in Q2 2023 and actual construction work in Q4 2023.

With this development, the likely contractor for 1 of 3 civil packages in Maharashtra is now known. 20.377 km Package C2 and 135.450 km Package C3’s technical bids are currently planned to be opened on January 20 and March 1, 2023 respectively.

Bro. Government ke log commission se paise kama rahe hai or desh ka paisa barbad kar rahe hai. Jabse BJP government aai hai sab jagah unnecessary paise udda rahi hai . Rafle se lekar statue of unity, central vista se lekar bullet train . Kyuki bullet train me loss hoga or fir 3-4yr baad ye adani ko kaudio ke dam par sell kar denge

Quite the contrary, Mr Anderson. These people are asking the right questions. When the money situation is so tight for millions of Indians and health and eduction budgets are minuscule how dare the govt spend crores on high speed passenger trains , that too, to a neighbouring state that is easily accessible. It’s just hubris not development as we have seen with the tallest statues and the central vista project. Which PM rushes off to open every new highway and ensures his face is plastered on every single poster or hoarding?
