ST Only Bidder for Chennai Metro Line 3 & 5’s Platform Screen Doors
May 6, 2023 Update: CMRL has cancelled the tender
February 19, 2023 Original Post: Singapore’s ST Engineering Electronics Ltd. is the only bidder for Chennai Metro Line 3 & 5’s Platform Screen Door contract (Package ASA12) after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) opened technical bids on Saturday.
Both these under construction lines of 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT (45.813 km Line-3) and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (47 km Line-5) with a mix of elevated & underground stations.
Platform screen doors (PSDs) with half-height will be installed at all elevated stations for enhancing passenger safety with primary goals to prevent suicides & accidents during passenger movement.
The scope of this contract includes Line-3’s 10 elevated stations between Sholinganallur Lake – SIPCOT 2, awarded to RVNL in January 2023, and Line-5’s 29 elevated stations between Grain Market – Elcot which are under construction by HCC – KEC JV and Larsen & Toubro.
Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) had invited tenders for this contract in October 2022 with an unknown estimate and 1965 day deadline.
Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Platform Screen Doors for Corridor 3 (Sholinganallur Lake to Sipcot 2) and Corridor 5 (Grain Market to Elcot) of CMRL Phase II.
Whether CMRL is satisfied or not with receiving just 1 bid remains to be seen. If they aren’t, then this will head to a retender. If they are, then ST’s technical bid will be evaluated for the next steps in the tendering process.
Back in October, CMRL had received 4 bids for Line-4’s PSD contract. Financial bids were opened in mid-January and the winner remains unknown to me. If someone reading this is aware, then drop a comment below or send me a message using the Contact Page.
