L&T Awarded Chennai Metro Line-4’s Telecom Contract ASA-05

Another contract down! Larsen & Toubro last week was awarded the telecommunication contract (Package ASA05) for Chennai Metro’s 26.09 km Line-4 which will connect Light House – Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) had invited tenders for this critical Chennai Metro Phase 2 system in April 2022, financed by New Development Bank (NDB), with an unknown estimate and 2180 (5.97 year) deadline.

Technical bids were opened in October to reveal 7 bidders. During evaluation, the bids submitted by 3W Networks FZCO, HFCL Ltd. and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. were found to be non-compliant to the tender conditions.

Financial bids of the rest 4 firms (Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL), KEC International Ltd., Larsen and Toubro Ltd. (L&T) and ST Engineering Electronics Ltd.) were opened on February 13 to reveal L&T as the lowest bidder.

April 8 Update: Contract value is Rs. 102 crore. LOA was issued on March 28.

Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Telecommunication System for CMRL Phase II Corridor 4.

This telecom package is among the last few pending packages for Line-4 where all 5 civil packages are under construction with contracts having been awarded for major system components such as rolling stock (awarded to Alstom) and electrification (awarded to Siemens).
