Bids Invited for Mumbai Metro Line-6’s 108 Coach Rolling Stock Contract
October 18, 2023 Update: Tender has has been canceled by MMRDA.
June 10, 2023 Original Post: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) today invited tenders to manufacture and supply 108 new coaches (rolling stock) for Mumbai Metro’s 15.18 km Line-6 (Pink Line) project
The city’s new Line-6 will connect Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) – Vikhroli via 13 elevated stations. It’s under construction by J Kumar Infraprojects (Packages BC-01R1 & BC-03) and MBZ-EIIL JV (Package BC-02R) since 2019.
MMRDA aims to operate these 108 standard gauge coaches in a 18 train-set x 6 coach configuration. They will be stabled and maintained at Kanjurmarg Depot, located on a 15 hectare land parcel on the eastern-end of the line.
This systems contract will be funded through a $241 million loan from New Development Bank (NDB) approved in 2020.
- Estimate: Rs. 989.87 crore
- Contract Period: 159 weeks (3 years)
- Bid Submission Deadline: 13/07/2023 at 3 PM
- Technical Bid Opening: 14/07/2023 at 3 PM
MMRDA’s Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Testing, Commissioning and Training of 108 nos. of Standard Gauge Cars including training for for Metro line 6 [Swami Samarth Nagar – Vikhroli (EEH)] of Mumbai Mero Rail Project of MMRDA.
After the termination of Line-4’s 234 coach contract by Alstom Transport in 2022, MMRDA had adopted an approach to invite bids for rolling stock contracts only after a line’s depot was cleared of ownership disputes – so this development is a good indicator of things finally coming to a logical end. I imagine a tender notice for Kanjurmarg Depot’s civil construction should be around the corner too.
Back in May, MMRDA invited bids for Line-6s signaling and train control, telecommunication and platform screen doors system (Package CA-132). The current bid opening date is July 4, so stay tuned for a list of bidders!

Was little surprised when i read that mmrda decided to invite 18 trainsets instead of 16 which was recommended in DPR
TMRG, I have a feeling that MMRDA will Invite Bids For Line 6 Kanjurmarg Depot and Line 9 Uttan Depot at once to avoid delays. What do u think it’s possible ?
