CMRS Approves Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 Phase 1’s Operations
City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on Monday received the final statutory approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for starting commercial operations on Phase 1 of Navi Mumbai Metro’s 11.10 km Line-1 connecting CBD Belapur – Pendhar.
5.96 km long Phase 1 connects Pendhar – Central Park through 5 elevated stations at Central Park, Pethpada, Amandoot (erst. Sector 34), Pethali Taloja (erst. Panchanand) and Pendhar.
The CMRS from the Indian Railways’ Western Circle had conducted a thorough 3-day final inspection of the entire line between April 17-19, 2023 during which a 6 member team inspected system, civil structures and passenger facilities. Observations for safe operations were subsequently communicated to CIDCO.
CIDCO in June completed rectifying pending station finishing works and CBTC signaling system configuration to comply with the CMRS team’s observations. Following that, the CMRS re-visited the line for a final inspection on June 17 and conducted speed trials where two of the line’s CRRC trains clocked high speeds of 90 kmph.
Like all CMRS approvals across the country, the approval issued is conditional/provisional in nature.
Here’s the authorization letter shared by a follower:
With this development, commercial launch of Navi Mumbai Metro’s Phase 1 now depends on (1) how quickly CIDCO takes corrective action in meeting the CMRS’ new requirements & suggestions (see point #4 in letter) for safely operating the line, and (2) the availability of local & national ministers wanting to attend the launch event.
When the line goes live, Navi Mumbai Metro will become India’s 16th metro system after a painfully long 12 years of construction riddled by legal hurdles, major contractor issues and poor project management.

Isn’t this a kind of useless standalone section to open? AFAIK it doesn’t connect with the IR line at Taloja. If they open the entire line at one go it will at least connect to the Mumbai suburban system.
They are indeed planning to start the entire 11.1 Kms line. Please read various media articles and even TMRG’s post once again.
It is good once the line starts cab save lot of time to reach taloja. And cheaper also once u take season ticket’s. After reaching cbd belapur we can anywhere in Mumbai. Kudos to cidco
