ST Only Bidder for Chennai Metro Line 3 & 5’s Platform Screen Door Retender
Singapore’s ST Engineering Electronics Ltd. is once again the only bidder for Chennai Metro Line 3 & 5’s Platform Screen Door contract (Package ASA12A) after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) opened technical bids on Tuesday.
Both these under construction lines of 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT (45.4 km Line-3) and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (44.6 km Line-5) with a mix of elevated & underground stations.
Platform screen doors (PSDs) with half-height will be installed at all elevated stations for enhancing passenger safety with primary goals to prevent suicides & accidents during passenger movement.
The scope of this contract includes Line-3’s 10 elevated stations between Sholinganallur Lake – SIPCOT 2, awarded to RVNL in January 2023, and Line-5’s 29 elevated stations between Grain Market – Elcot which are under construction by HCC – KEC JV and Larsen & Toubro.
CMRL had originally invited tenders for this contract in October 2022 with an unknown estimate and 1965 day deadline. Technical bids were opened in February 2023 to reveal ST as the only bidder and the tender was cancelled in May 2023. Bids were re-invited in June with a 800 day deadline.
Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Platform Screen Doors for Corridor 3 (Sholinganallur Lake to Sipcot 2) and Corridor 5 (Grain Market to Elcot) of CMRL Phase II.
CMRL wasn’t satisfied with just ST’s participation in the original tender’s round, so they’ll now have to make a call in the interest of time – whether to (1) cancel the tender and hope for better participation in the next round, or (2) go ahead and evaluate ST’s technical bid and open their financial bid if all ducks are in a row on the technical side.
CMRL has another tender (Package ASA09) for PSDs on Line-3’s Nehru Nagar – Sholinganallur section and Line-5’s Assissi Nagar – Koyambedu section. Bids are currently scheduled to open on October 11, so stay tuned.

Hi TMRG,
A news article published saying porur to Alandur section will be opened first along with Poonamallee corridor. Does it mean there will any inter corridor connection built in Porur? not mentioned anywhere else
Hi, I haven’t seen a detailed design of Porur Junction, but I imagine there will be an inter-corridor connection somewhere between Porur – Alwarthiru Nagar
I verified the DPR and all other news articles. Nowhere it is mentioned.
Is there any other document with this information? Please share/suggest
I don’t have any other design docs. The DPR is a base-line of general specs, a lot can and does change by the time designs are prepared and tendering begins.
TMRG,
