L&T Wins Bengaluru Suburban Rail Kanaka Line 4’s Civil Contract

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was today declared as the lowest bidder for the civil construction work of 46.88 Corridor-4 (Heelalige – Rajanukunte) of the 149.348 km Bengaluru Suburban Rail project (BSRP).

The scope of this package for Corridor-4, known as Kanaka Line, includes construction of 8.96 km of viaduct and 37.92 km of at-grade section. Construction of 19 stations (2 elevated & 17 at-grade) en route will be carried out via separate package(s).

Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) had invited tenders for its construction in January 2023 with an unknown estimate and 30 month deadline.

Technical bids were opened in July to reveal 4 bidders – Afcons Infrastructure, Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon, inTarvo Technologies and L&T. During evaluation, DRA Infra and inTarvo’s bids were found to be technically non-compliant to the tender conditions.

I’m not aware of KRIDE’s estimate, so it’s difficult to assess how L&T’s bid is placed and the chances of a contract getting awarded. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

This is the second major civil package of BSRP after Mallige Line (Corridor-2)’s contract which was awarded to L&T in September 2022.

Technical bid evaluation is currently underway for the project’s 264 coach rolling stock contract. Back in May, KRIDE received 3 bids from BEML, BHEL and CAF. A list of all major civil & system packages and their contractor/status can be viewed here.

@TMRG I see that the deadline for the entire project is set for 2026, what is your realistic estimate for completion? My usual method is to double the time between announcement and deadline. By that estimate, its 2030. Looks reasonable?
