Delhi Metro Phase 4: 4 Bidders for Head Hardened Rails’ Retender
4 firms – ArcelorMittal, Jindal, Mitsui and Voestalpine – have submitted bids to supply 16,935 MT of head hardened rails for Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 project after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) opened technical bids for its retender on Friday.
Delhi’s 65.1 km long Phase 4 is well under construction and includes 1 new line (23.62 km Silver Line: Aerocity – Tughlakabad) and the extension of the Magenta Line (28.92 km Janakpuri West – R.K.Ashram) and Pink Line (12.58 km Mukundpur – Maujpur).
These special tracks of Package DT-02 (now DT-02R) will be 60E1 – 1080 grade as per Indian Railway Specification T-12-2009, and manufactured through a special heat treatment process to provide additional strength, lower residual stress, elongate track-life and minimize maintenance.
DMRC had originally invited bids for DT-02 in February 2022 with a 540 day deadline and canceled the bidding process in June 2023 after all bids (bidder names are unknown to me) were found to be technically non-responsive. Bids were re-invited in July with a 365 day deadline.

This is just another one of 44 system & civil packages that will be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through a Rs 8,390 crore loan signed in March 2021.
