Surat Metro: Bhesan – Saroli Line 2’s Segment Launching Begins

Surat Metro’s 19.26 km Line-2 connecting Bhesan – Saroli is now well under construction with precast segment launching activity starting this week to construct the viaduct of both of its civil packages – CS5 & CS6.

This east-west line of the 40.35 km Surat Metro Phase 1 project will consist of 18 elevated stations. It’s being constructed by Ranjit Buildcon – Dilip Buildcon JV (10.559 km Package CS5) in west Surat, and Dilip Buildcon (8.702 km CS6: Majura Gate – Saroli) in east Surat.

Each segment is 8.5m wide and 2.1m tall. By back of the hand calculations, I estimate ~2900 segments will be launched for CS5 and ~2400 for CS6. If someone associated with the project has the exact numbers, then leave a comment below.

Package CS5: Bhesan – Majura Ghat

10.559 km long Package CS5 includes 11 elevated stations. Launching activity for its viaduct by RBL – DBL JV has started from on top of piers 226-227 located south of Hari Om Circle in Adajan (view on Google maps).

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had declared RBL – DBL JV as the lowest bidder for this package in June 2022

11 stations will built at Bhesan, Botanical Garden, Ugat Vaarigruh, Palanpur Road, LP Savani School, Performing Art Centre, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Badri Narayan Temple and Athwa Chopati.

Package CS6: Majura Gate – Saroli

8.702 km long Package CS6 includes 7 elevated stations. Dilip Buildcon (DBL) began launching segments infront of Sangini Trade Center (view on Google Maps) using the underslung construction method with a mobile crane. 

They’re currently assembling a launching gantry (LG) to build the rest of the viaduct. Some snaps by Pragyesh Gour:

GMRC had awarded DBL with Package CS6’s 702 crore contract in December 2022.

The 7 elevated stations en route will be built at Udhna Dawaja, Kamela Darwaja, Anjana Farm, Model Town, Magob, Bharat Cancer Hospital and Saroli.
