RBL – DBL JV Wins Surat Metro Line-2 Package CS5’s Work

Ranjit Buildcon Ltd. – Dilip Buildcon Ltd. JV on Saturday emerged as the lowest bidder to construct 10.559 km Package CS5 of Surat Metro’s 19.26 km Line-2 connecting Bhesan – Saroli.

This section of the 40.35 km Surat Metro Phase 1 project in west Surat will connect Bhesan – Adajan – Majura Gate via 11 elevated stations, and form an interchange with Line-1 at Majura Gate in the heart of the city.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) invited tenders for its construction in January 2022 with an estimated value of Rs. 870 crore and undisclosed deadline. Technical bids were opened in May to reveal 6 bidders.

Brief Scope: Construction of 10.559 Km Elevated Viaduct and 11 Nos. Stations (Excl. E&M, Architectural Finishing and Roofing) From Bheshan Dead End (Ch. -949.63 m) to Majura Gate Station (Ch. 9090m) including Viaduct Ramp to Depot Entry near Bheshan for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase – 1, Corridor-2 (Package 1)

The 11 elevated stations in this package will be built at Bhesan, Botanical Garden, Ugat Vaarigruh, Palanpur Road, LP Savani School, Performing Art Centre, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Badri Narayan Temple and Athwa Chopati.

Construction of Majura Gate Interchange Station is part of Package CS1’s scope, which was awarded in January 2021 to Sadbhav Engineering – SP Singla Constructions JV.

This contract will be funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) through a 250 million (approx. Rs. 2205 crore) loan deal signed in February 2021.

RBL – DBL JV’s bid of Rs. 1061 crore was significantly higher (21.95%) than GMRC’s estimate, so I see this heading to the negotiating table. If no breakthrough is made, then we’ll see a retender of this section which I hope doesn’t happen in the interest of time.

With this development, financial bids for just civil packages CS4 (North Ramp – Sarthana) and CS6 (Majura Gate – Saroli) of the main-line are left to be opened. A list of all Surat Metro Phase 1 packages and their status/contractors can be viewed here.
