URCC Wins Bhopal Metro Package BH03’s Civil Contract

URC Construction (URCC) was today declared as the lowest bidder for the civil construction work of 27.87 km Bhopal Metro Phase 1 project’s elevated Package BH-03 with 6 elevated stations by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL).

This approximately 5.34 km long civil package on Bhopal Metro’s Orange Line consists of 2 disjointed viaducts with stations located on either side of underground Package BH-04 (Sindhi Colony – Aish Bagh) where technical bid evaluation is underway.

  1. Southern Section (approx. 1.62 km long): Subhash Nagar Underpass Station to Aishbagh Ramp with 2 stations at Pul Bogda (interchange with 12.9 km Blue Line) and Aishbagh
  2. Northern Section (approx. 3.72 km long): Sindhi Colony Ramp to Karond with 4 stations at Sindhi Colony, DIG Bungalow, Krishi Upaj Mandi and Karond

MPMRCL had invited tenders for Package BH-03’s construction in April 2023 with a Rs. 647.47 crore estimate and 1092 days (3 year) deadline. Technical bids were opened in August to reveal 8 bidders. Bids from Ceigall India, DRA Infracon and Sam India were found non-compliant to the tender conditions and subsequently disqualified.

Tender No: 680/MPMRCL/2023/Package BH-03

Brief Scope: Part design and construction of elevated viaduct, six (6) elevated metro rail stations viz Pul Bogda (a Passenger Interchange station between Orange and Blue line), Aishbagh, Sindhi Colony, DIG Bungalow, Krishi Upaj Mandi and Karond and Two ramps between Chainages 27+000 & 28+375 and 31+765 & 36+139 for Bhopal Metro Rail Project.

URCC’s bid of Rs. 596.40 crore was well below (7.89%) that of MPMRCL’s estimate of Rs. 647.47 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period.

This is URCC’s second win in Bhopal after Package BH-02 in 2021 which involves the construction of 8 elevated stations on Bhopal Metro’s Priority Corridor between AIIMS – Subhash Nagar. A recent drone status video can be viewed here on X (Twitter).

With this development, I see basic ground work starting in Q2 2024 and full-fledged construction work starting in Q3 2024. There are now just 2 civil packages of Phase 1 remaining where MPMRCL has to complete technical evaluation and open financial bids:
