Delhi – Dharuhera RRTS: Bids Invited for Geotechnical Work in Gurgaon

National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) last week invited bids for conducting geotechnical soil investigation work for a new alignment of the 164 km Delhi – Alwar RRTS (RapidX) line through Gurugram (Gurgaon).

This new semi high-speed line in its first phase (stage) was earlier going to connect Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan with SNB (Shahjahanpur – Neemrana – Behrod) in Rajasthan. Per NCRTC’s tender document, the line its first phase will now instead terminate at Dharuhera within Haryana, covering a distance of 70.72 km with 13 stations.

The line was earlier going to pass through old Gurgaon with stations at Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon Sector 17 and Rajiv Chowk. It will now run along the national highway 48 (NH-48) with stations at Cyber City (underground), IFFCO Chowk (elevated), Rajiv Chowk (underground) and Hero Honda Chowk (underground).

The purpose of this geotechnical investigation contract is to study the soil’s profile along the line’s revised alignment between Aerocity and Kherki Daula and at the site of its train maintenance depot at Dharuhera.

The results will be included within the civil construction tender documents to help infrastructure companies make more informed financial bids and use appropriate machinery, methods & technology during construction.

  • Tender No: DA/GT/COR-OF/030
  • Duration: 180 Days
  • Bid Submission Deadline: February 2, 2024 at 3 PM
  • Bid Opening Date: February 3, 2024 at 3 PM

NCRTC’s Brief Scope: Detailed Geotechnical Investigation work for underground and elevated section on revised alignment between Aerocity to Kherkidaula and Dharuhera Depot of SKK (Sarai Kale Khan) – Dharuhera of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.

I always felt NCRTC was missing a trick by skipping Cyber City and the eastern / newish parts of Gurgaon where a larger percentage of potential users can afford RapidX fares, so this realignment comes as a welcome change.

Per the tender document, 48.35 km of the line’s route falls in Haryana & 22.37 km in Delhi. While almost the entire route length in Delhi is underground, the route length in Haryana will mostly be elevated except 16.28 km underground.

In Haryana, the line will run elevated along NH-48 from Sector 25 to Rajiv Chowk, Kherki Daula to Manesar, and Panchgaon to Dharuhera. I’ve mapped the line’s indicative route and location of stations over here.

Here’s the revised list of stations on Delhi – Dharuhera RRTS line shared in the tender document (this table is best viewed on a Desktop):

This is NCRTC’s 5th geotechnical investigation contract for this line. Here’s a list of past contracts awarded, which I’ve covered on the Delhi – Alwar RRTS information page.

Back in June 2022, SYSTRA – Egis Rail – Consulting Engineers Group JV emerged as the preferred bidder for this line’s General Consultant (GC) service. NCRTC has already engaged at least two Detailed Design Consultants (DDC) for the Haryana section – L&T Infrastructure Engineering Ltd. (IDPL Ramp to Rajiv Chowk) and SYSTRA – AECOM JV (Panchgaon to SNB and Dharuhera Depot)

But why they have truncate the line till Dharuhera ?

    • TMRG says:

Likely because (1) SNB – Dharuhera has a lower ridership projection compared to the rest of the line (2) Cost escalation as Gurgaon section will now run largely underground except around IFFCO Chowk

Any reason why the IIFCO chowk station is elevated but the stations after that are underground ? I mean isnt there plenty of open space along NH 8. I mean Manesar station is also underground ?

The government invests in infra projects for future needs. Yes, considering the current situation there are not that many passengers. Still, how developed will these areas be in the coming 10 to 15 years and the government will have to do something now for the transportation of the people working here, otherwise the entire area will become Old Delhi.

Hey tmrg, what do you think how much of planned rrts construction will happen under 10 year? As You mentioned 2035 for all planned routes

Gurgaon is where all projects come to die…this will also get trampled at various stages and new stages will be invented to keep it in a time warp and from seeing any progress for decades. First the metro expansion has been stuck somewhere and while the Meerut RRTS is already running, this leg has not left the drawing board. Shame shame

Why Rewari is excluded from this. Rewari is the next main city after gurugram. I request you take-up this issue. Even this would result in low ridership . I mean how can they exclude Rewari which is the main populous area after gurugram-manesar.
