Ahmedabad Metro: Narmada Canal Extradosed Bridge’s Final Segment Launched

Afcons Infrastructure on Wednesday celebrated launching their final of 105 precast box segmensts for 28.25 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project’s 303m long extradosed bridge over Narmada Canal.

This bridge of Phase 2 project’s 14.36 km Package C1 consists of 6 piers. The 2 main completed pylons (P4-14 and P4-15) are 36.5 meters tall and comprise of 9 stay cables each. The very first segment for the bridge deck was launched in December 2023.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had awarded Afcons with 14.36 km Package C1’s construction contract in Q4 2020. Their scope includes the line’s 8.124 km elevated section from Motera Stadium to GNLU with 8 stations at Koteshwar Road, Vishwakarma College, Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle, Juna Koba, Koba Gam, and GNLU.

It also includes the 5.42 km section from GNLU to GIFT City with a bridge over Sabarmati River and 2 stations at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).

With this development, all major launching activity for Package C1’s viaduct has been wrapped up. Earlier this month Afcons had launched their final of 574 U-girders – see details and pics.
