DP Jain Begins Casting Nagpur Metro Phase 2 Viaduct’s Segments

D.P. Jain & Co. Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. on Thursday began pouring concrete to cast their first box segment for 6.92 km Package C-01 in Reach 2A of Nagpur Metro’s 43.8 km Phase 2 project.

A Rs. 394.89 crore civil contract for this northern extension of Nagpur Metro’s 19.658 km Orange Line, built in Phase 1, was originally awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) in September 2023. They in turn subcontracted out its construction work to DP Jain for an undisclosed amount.

DP Jain plans to churn out 2250 segments from their casting yard located in Khairy village on Kamptee Road (NH-247).

The first segment (S5) cast will eventually be launched between piers 2P (116-117). It will have a length of 3m, top width of 8.5m, bottom width of 3.5m, and weigh approximately 37 MT.

Just like Pune and Nagpur metro’s Phase 1 projects, all segments in Nagpur’s Phase 2 will also be integrated and cast along with a parapet wall (unique within India’s metros) to cut down construction time, transportation time and the purchase cost of separate casting molds.

13 km long elevated Reach 2A will extend Nagpur Metro’s 19.658 km Orange Line, built in Phase 1, north-eastward from Automotive Square to Kanhan River via 12 elevated stations.

Package C-01’s scope includes viaduct work between Automotive Square Station and Lekha Nagar Station.

Construction of 6 stations en-route at Pili Nadi, Khasara Fata, All India Radio, Kheri Fata, Lok Vihar and Lekha Nagar will be carried out via Package C-05 – which was also awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.
