KEC Begins Patna Metro Phase 1’s Electrification Work

KEC International last week began installing electrification masts for the 25 kV overhead equipment (OHE) traction system of Patna Metro’s Phase 1 project under Package PE-03.

This major milestone was recorded at pier number 104 located between Bhoothnath and Zero Mile stations’ viaduct on Patna Metro’s Priority Corridor. This 6.1 km elevated section connecting Malahi Pakri – New ISBT on 14.05 km Line-2 has been under construction by NCC since January 2021.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had awarded KEC International with Patna Metro’s Rs. 131.89 crore electrification contract (Package PE-03) in April 2022.

Besides the OHE system, KEC’s scope includes setting up a 33 KV ring main unit, auxilliary sub station (ASS) and SCADA for both elevated & underground sections including the New ISBT Depot which is under construction by Quality Buildcon.

A tender notice is still pending for Patna Metro’s rolling stock contract, so I reckon we’re easily at least 20 months away from seeing trial runs (train testing) starting. A list of all Patna Metro civil & system tenders and their status / contractors can be viewed here.

That is because this is being executed by dmrc and they usually prefer OHE over third rail. Not that big of a deal I would say
