RVNL Wins Nagpur Metro Phase 2 C-08’s Contract for 6 Stations

In a BSE filing, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) on Friday announced it was the lowest bidder to construct civil package C8 of the 43.8 km Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project.

The scope of this contract by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO) involves the construction of 6 elevated metro stations on Reach 2B of the Orange Line’s northern extension at Cantonment, Kamptee Police Station, Kamptee Municipal Council, Dragon Palace, Golf Club and Kanhan River Metro Station.

RVNL’s Bid: Rs. 187,34,07,260 (187.34 crore)

MahaMetro had invited bids for this contract in January 2024 with a 900 day (2.5 year) deadline. Technical bids were opened in March 2024 to reveal just 2 bidders: RVNL and YFC Projects – BBG Infrastructure JV.

If someone reading this is aware of YFC – BBG JV’s bid value, then drop a comment below or send me a message using the contact page, and I’ll add into the post for documentation purposes.

MahaMetro had appointed LKT Engineering Consultants as the Detailed Design Consultants (DDC) for these 6 stations in August 2023. And earlier this week, MahaMetro received 5 bids for constructing a 5.9 km long viaduct connecting these stations from the likes of Tata Projects and ITD Cementation – see details.

If awarded, RVNL will subcontract work out to a civil construction company as seen in other metro projects. I’m curious to see who it goes to.

Package C-08 is so far RVNL’s third win in Phase 2 after Package C-01 (Reach 1A) and Package C-05 (Reach 1A & 2A). See a list of all Nagpur Metro Phase 2 packages (civil & systems) and their status over here.

At some point rvnl should consider doing the work themselves or stleast a portion of it instead of subcontracting out all of it to make their bids even more competitive.
