Rahee Wins Nagpur Metro Phase 2’s Track Contract T-01

Rahee Infratech Ltd. on Thursday was declared as the lowest bidder to supply and install ballasted tracks for Nagpur Metro’s 43.8 km Phase 2 project by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro).

Package T-01’s scope includes track-work within the small 1.746 km at-grade section of Nagpur Metro Orange Line’s 18.7 km Reach 1A connecting Khapri to Butibori MIDC ESR. The at-grade section connects chainage 19550 to 21296.917 with two metro stations named Eco Park Station and Metro City Station.

If awarded, Rahee will also supply special head-hardened rails (60E1 – 1080 grade), track fastenings and 1 in 9 turnouts for a crossover to allow the system’s CRRC trains to switch tracks between the up and down lines.

Maha-Metro had invited bids for this contract in March 2024 with a Rs. 7.96 crore estimate and tight 150 day deadline. Technical bids were opened in April to reveal 2 bidders – Rahee Infratech and NMC Industries.

Maha-Metro’s Brief Scope: Design, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of ballasted track in At grade section of Reach 1A of NMRP Phase-2 including supply of 1080 Grade HH Rails, track fastenings, 1 in 9 R300 ballasted turnout and other miscellaneous works

Rahee’s bid of Rs. 9.42 crore was 18.34% higher than MahaMetro’s estimate of Rs. 7.96 crore. While the difference of Rs. 1.46 crore is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, it’s still not ideal for contract award so we’ll have to see how negotiations go.

For comparison – back in 2021 a similar low-value track contract for Patna Metro (PT-7) didn’t come to fruition after JSPL’s bid of Rs. 8.91 crore was 16.47% higher than DMRC’s estimate of Rs. 7.65 crore. That contract had to be re-tendered out with SAIL getting the contract for PT-7R in 2024.

This is so far the second systems related contract of Phase 2, that I’m aware of, where financial bids have been opened after electrical & mechanical contract E&M-02. A list of all Nagpur Metro Phase 2 civil & system packages and their status / contractors can be viewed here.
