KPIL Launches Kanpur Metro’s Steel Girders over Naubasta Flyover
Kalpataru Projects International Ltd (KPIL) on late Friday night erected two 30 meter long steel composite box girders over Naubasta Flyover for constructing Kanpur Metro’s 23.785 km Line-1 between IIT Kanpur and Naubasta.
These steel girders for Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project’s Package KNPCC-07 (Transport Nagar Ramp – Naubasta Station) were placed 6 meters above the flyover’s deck which carries national highways 19 and 27 (NH-19 & NH-27). This is smack-dab in the middle of Kidwai Nagar and Vasant Vihar stations – view on Google Maps.
KPIL’s team has so far launched 25 & 28 meter long U-girders to build this 5.27 km long section’s viaduct, but the flyover’s width required longer durable steel girders to be launched. In the coming days 4 more smaller steel girders will be launched and joined together on either end to form twin 45 meter long continuous steel spans.
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had awarded KNPCC-07’s Rs. 514.61 crore civil contract to KPIL (formerly JMC Projects) in June 2022. This package is located on the eastern-end of Line-1 and consists of 5 elevated stations at Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Baudh Nagar and Naubasta.
Back in April 2024, Afcons Infrastructure launched two 45m long steel girders over Sisamau Drain (Nala) for 8.728 km Package KNPCC-02R – see details and pics.
KPIL last week completed casting all 348 U-girders, Double T-girders and I Girders for package KNPCC-07 at their yard located in Hanspuram (view on Google Maps).
The operationalization of this section largely depends on the completion of Package KNPCC-06‘s tunnels between Nayaganj and Transport Nagar ramp. Afcons Infrastructure has so far recorded two tunnel breakthroughs (Nayaganj = Kanpur Central) and has another 4 more to go between Kanpur Central = Jhakarkatti = Transport Nagar.
