Bids Invited for Mumbai Metro Line-11’s Geotechnical Work
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC) this week invited tenders (bids) for conducting geotechnical soil investigation for 18 km Mumbai Metro Line-11 (Green Line) which will connect Anik Bus Depot – SPM Chowk via 15 underground stations.
This development comes a month after MMRC invited bids for conducting an underground utility survey for this underground line’s new alignment which will be Mumbai city’s third after Line-3 (Aqua Line) & Line-7A (Red Line).
The objective of this geotechnical investigation is to have sufficient data on the sub-soil to assist with preparing detailed design of structures, and use appropriate machinery, methods & technology during construction. This will also help ensure least possible damage to existing structures during the construction phase.
Per the tender notice, boreholes of 150mm should be spaced at regular intervals of 500 meters along the twin tunnel’s alignment with 3 boreholes required at each station’s site area. These boreholes will be dug up to a depth of 10m, between 10-20m, and beyond 20m per the consultant borehole plan.
Tender Details
- Contract Duration: 90 days (3 months)
- Submission Due Date: August 21, 2024 at 4 PM
- Technical Bid Opening: August 22, 2024 at 4 PM
MMRC’s Brief Scope: Geotechnical Investigation works for revised alignment of Mumbai Metro Line 11
Here’s a copy of Line-11’s revised alignment I shared last week. Within the geotechnical notice, MMRC has included a similar map but refers Coal Bunder Station as Darukhana Station.
15 underground stations are planned to be built at Anik Bus Depot, Wadala Depot, CGS Colony, Ganesh Nagar, BPT Hospital, Sewri, Hay Bunder, Coal Bunder (Darukhana), Reay Road, Byculla, Nagpada Junction, Bhendi Bazaar, Crawford Market, CSMT Metro (interchange with Line-3 / Aqua Line), Horniman Circle, and SPM Circle.
The assigned geotechnical contractor will need to submit the following in their final report:
- Bore hole details and locations with georeferenced co-ordinates.
- Area geology and related characteristics
- Water table levels
- Test results
- Bore hole wise foundation recommendations
- Cutoff value
- Soil bearing capacities
- Seismicity
This investigation is one of several steps MMRC has to take prior to construction which I envision will not start until at least 2027 – and that’s on the optimistic side of the spectrum.
Other necessary steps including securing financing, preparing detailed designs, appointing a General Consultant, appointing consultants for EIA, SIA & rehabilitation, and conducting the civil tendering process.

Please change a bpt hospital metro station and move the metro line by going through into wadala railway station. Why I’m telling this, because, in wadala railway station, we get the both option either monorail(to go saat rashta monorail stn) and in harbour line(Goregaon/Panvel). We can easily switch in between if this happens. I’m requesting you please make a change 🙏🏻
Good suggestion. Also why not Gateway station instead of SPM Chowk ?
Foolish work from borivali to start then it’s will relief
