6 Bidders for Nagpur Metro Phase 2’s Electrification Contract TR-03

Six firms have submitted bids for the electrification system of Nagpur Metro’s 43.8 km Phase 2 project after Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC or Maha-Metro) opened technical bids today.

Electrification package TR-03’s scope includes installing and commissioning a 33 kV cable network, ASS, RSS & SCADA system. Its work will be funded through a combined $427 mn loan by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and European Investment Bank (EIB).

Maha-Metro had invited bids for Package TR-03 in February 2024 with an unknown estimate and 180 weeks (3.45 year) deadline. The list below shows lead bidders, some may have bid in a JV with other firms.

Bidders

  • BNC Power Projects Ltd. (BNCPPL)
  • IRCON International Ltd.
  • KEC International Ltd.
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • Siemens Ltd.
  • Sterling Wilson Pvt. Ltd. (SWPL)

Maha-Metro’s Brief Scope: Design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of receiving cum auxiliary main cum traction sub stations including EHV connection from grid substation, 33 kV cable network, ASS and SCADA system for Nagpur Metro Rail Phase-2 Project.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

This is so far the fourth systems related contract of Phase 2, that I’m aware of, where at least technical bids have been opened after electrical and mechanical works package E&M-02, track package T-01 and electrification package TR-02.

The other electrification package TR-02 involves installing flexible overhead equipment (OHE) and posts within all at-grade and elevated sections of the project. MahaMetro in June received 5 bids for it and technical evaluation is currently underway.
