4 Bidders for Bangalore Metro Phase 3’s Electrification Consultant Contract
Four firms today submitted bids for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract of the 44.65 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3 project’s traction and power supply works.
Bangalore Metro’s Phase 3 in western Bengaluru includes the construction of a new 32.15 km Orange Line connecting Kempapura – JP Nagar 4th Phase via 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and a new 12.5 km line connecting Kadabagare – Hosahalli via 9 stations.
Like other lines of earlier phases, the new lines of Phase 3 will also be powered by a 750V DC Third Rail system. The scope of this design consultancy contract (Package EPDD-5) would typically involve designing all traction substations, auxiliary substations (along with power cables), 750V DC third rail system and SCADA system.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) had invited bids for this consultancy contract in October 2024 with a 730 day (2 year) deadline. Technical bids were opened today to reveal the following 4 bidders.
Note: The list below shows lead bidders only. Some might have bid in a JV with other firms.
EPDD-5’s Bidders
- Ardanuy India Pvt. Ltd.
- DB Engineering and Consulting GmbH
- Leap Infraasys Pvt. Ltd.
- SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When completed, the financial bids of the technically-qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely design consultant.
Back in December 2024 BMRCL received 6 bids for the civil structure’s 3 Detailed Design Consultant contracts. At this time I’m expecting the first civil construction tender notice to be published no sooner than Q1 2026.

Kanakpura road sarakki signal jp nagar metro station and new proposal metro station with in and out, up and down for vehicle double decker scientific way traffic from jp nagar, ilyasnagar upto kadrenahalli please release the sketch
If the proposed Orange Line ends at JP Nagar, it will take 3 transfers to get to and from the Blue Line from there, which is totally insane, as it defeats the very purpose of building circular lines. You have to complete the circle, with either the Orange Line extended to Silkboard or the Blue Line extended to JP Nagar. Admittedly I’ve never even been to India, but every time I look at that planning map and see the gap in the circle, I wonder what they’re thinking. What am I missing?
Land Acquisition Costs and disruption to existing business and companies.
That connection that you are thinking as “obvious” has hundreds if not thousands of local business and is home to both rich and influential people and is a hub of community activity. Connecting these will require acquiring the land from so many of these business which might just kill of these stores, and also require extreme premiums for the cost of the land, and also create intense backlash from common public and the rich and powerful.
Its expensive, creates problems more than solve, and is unpopular and invites conflicts with rich and powerful. Not worth the hassle.
