SYSTRA Wins Bangalore Metro Phase 3’s Design Consultant Contracts

SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) on Wednesday was declared as the preferred bidder for three Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contracts of the 44.65 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3 by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL).

SYSTRA’s selection was made based on the Quality and Cost Based System (QCBS) method – they were not only the lowest bidder on the financial side, but also scored the highest total score which is a combination of the normalized technical and financial scores.

Bangalore Metro’s Phase 3 in western Bengaluru includes the construction of a new 32.15 km Orange Line connecting Kempapura – JP Nagar 4th Phase via 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and a new 12.5 km line connecting Kadabagare – Hosahalli via 9 stations.

A significant portion of the viaduct for both lines will be built as a double-decker structure for vehicles (level-1) and metro trains (level-2). The design of a double-decker structure was a significant evaluation criteria for each firm’s proposal.

BMRCL had invited bids for bids for both line’s design via 3 contracts in October with a 1460 day (4 year) contract duration. They received 6 bids for each contract when technical bids were opened in December 2024.

Package DDC-1’s scope includes the Orange Line’s 17.121 km section from JP Nagar 4th Phase Station to BDA Complex Nagarbhavi Station, and DDC-2 includes the Orange Line’s 12.848 km section from Sumanahalli Cross Station to Kempapura Station. Package DDC-3 includes designing the entire 12.5 km Kadabagare – Hosahalli line.

When appointed SYSTRA’s role will include, but is not limited to, producing and proposing alternate designs of all civil, architectural, building services, electrical and mechanical (E&M) works.

With this development, I expect the first civil construction tender notice to be published as soon as Q3 2025 – way earlier than my previous Q1 2026 outlook. Phase 3 is moving along faster than I anticipated – earlier this month BMRCL received 4 bids for Phase 3’s Electrification Consultant contract. Geotechnical investigation work, which started in September 2024, should be wrapped up in February, if not already.

Has the Train set from Titagarh for the Yellow Line of Bangalore Metro reached the Hebbagodi Depot? There has been no news, update or confirmation regarding this from any sources that are available online.

Haven’t seen anything either. The mainstream media is good at reporting such news, so just keep an eye out for it this coming week

I think the alignment of the Orange line is wrong in your map. I think it takes a right coming from Hebbal at Sumanahalli Jn towards Sunkadakatte and then takes a left towards BDA Complex, runs along Kengeri Main Road till Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology and then takes a left to re-align with the Outer Ring Road at Nagarabhavi circle.

That section intrigues me. I’ll revise it, if needed, when I see an official document with the alignment. Civil tender notice should have it.

I really hope the double decker part doesn’t delay the metro, otherwise it could have been built pretty quickly given that it’s all elevated and there’s experience from the first 5 lines build/being built
