Nagpur Metro Phase 2: KPIL & GRIL Cast 1st Segments for Packages C-11 & C-02

Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) and GR Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL) this week began pouring concrete to cast their first box segments for Reach 3A and Reach 1A of the 43.8 km Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project.

KPIL for Reach 3A

Kalpataru Projects’ Package C-11 involves constructing a 6.414 km western extension (Reach 3A) of the Aqua Line from Hingna Mount View – Hingna. KPIL’s yard in Hingna will be used to cast 2175 segments for the Aqua Line’s viaduct.

This development comes just 4 months after KPIL was awarded C-11’s Rs. 999 crore contract by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL or Maha-Metro) with a 3 year deadline.

The scope of package C-11 involves construction of 3 disjointed viaducts for Phase 2’s 5.29 km Reach 2B (Cantonment – Kanhan River), 6.414 km Reach 3A (Hingna Mount View – Hingna), and 5.33 km Reach 4A (Pardi – Transport Nagar).

GRIL for Reach 1A

GR Infraprojects’s Package C-02 purely involves construction of a 17.624 km viaduct within Nagpur Metro Orange Line’s 18.7 km Reach 1A connecting Khapri – Butibori MIDC ESR.

Reach 1A’s viaduct along NH-44 will consist of two special spans over the Indian Railways lines with lengths of 79m and 100m, and a 1.14 km long 6 lane double-decker section for vehicles (level 1) and CRRC metro trains (level 2).

Per GRIL’s construction plan, they will cast a total of 5144 segments and 746 PSC girders from 8 long-line casting beds and 16 short-line beds located at their casting yard in Tarsi village. A bhoomi pooja session to formally kickstart construction work was held in January 2025.
