DMRC Modifies Alignment of Phase 4’s Rithala – Narela Line

Hat tip to Vibhav Sharma.

Last week, I wrote about the DMRC revealing the alignment of Phase 4’s reinstated 7.96 km Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block line in south Delhi, but overlooked a small but notable tweak made to the upcoming Rithala – Narela line’s alignment in the Pooth Khurd area of north-west Delhi.

This 21 km extension of the 24.4 km Red Line (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) was earlier envisaged to touch the hamlet of Prem Piao where an interchange with the Dwarka – Prem Piao line was planned, but since that new line, promoted by some of the Delhi government’s MLAs, made absolutely no economic sense to the DMRC, it was dropped from the list of Phase 4’s lines which got finalized in July 2016. Subsequently, the DMRC revised the Rohini – Narela line’s alignment, and now instead of touching Prem Piao by running south of Pooth Khurd, it now takes a northern route around Pooth Khurd to reach Narela.

I’ve reproduced the DMRC’s map here displaying the location of all the proposed stations. The unadulterated version of it can be viewed here on their website. Note the inclusion of a new depot in Narela which along with the Shastri Park Depot will serve the entire 55 km line from Narela – Rithala – Kashmere Gate – Dilshad Garden – New Bus Adda (Ghaziabad).

They’ve also added a depot location for the Tuglakhabad-Airport line, south of the line between Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli.

Seems to be planned at Rajokri Forest – one of the last vestiges of the Aravalis in Delhi. Let’s see how that goes, especially with it being designated a ‘protect forest’ with illegal settlements in it.

Recently dmrc published on newspaper that pink and magenta lines will open in parts by 2017. Pink line’s last section mayur vihar pocket 1 to shiv vihar will open in 2017. Will the partly demolished building near hasanpur village near i.p extn will be demolished. Because without that the line could not be opened. It connects vinod nagar depot.

Yes, it will be demolished. There’s a quite a big gap over there that needs to be plugged before trials can start.

If rithala metro come in narela it will be waisting of money and time also…bcoz in this rout rare passenger will do up down…..if samaypur badli line direct joint to narela via singhu border route …then metro will be in profit….bcoz lots of passenger daily do up down towards delhi…..

fully agree there is no sense of extended red line to narela and even to kundli daily passengers are travelling to Gurugram and they need to save time which can be done by extended the yellow line to narela via khera khurd, hollambi and sindhu border

Are u serious that sector 24,23, 21 etc are going to be ignored in new route…?
If that so then it’s a totally wrong decision.
Metro should must go atlest till Helipad & should be diverted after that.

In the map it’s showing through Helipad but in station wise detail it’s not.

    Pls clear the confusion.

Samaypur Badli to Narela is the easiest way of connecting the sub-city Narela. This is the commercially viable route for DMRC and passengers will be benefited. journey through Bawana and Rohini to Delhi is wastage of time and money and DMRC would be a loss.

or else the Narela – Samaypur Badli rout should also to be connected simultaneously. only then the ridership will increase.

Fourth should touch at least rohini Sector 21 and also mundka line should be extended up to Kanjhawala to have some quick connectivity

its totally wrong decision by dmrc. samaypur badli metro should extended to narela or sighu border for better ridership. DMRC and passengers both will be benefit. and same suggestion for red line rithala to bawana main city to auchandi border. .bcoz lots of passenger daily do up down towards delhi…..for both ways.

  26. INDRA SINGH BISHT says:

One more connectivity should be from rithala to mundka
Metro can start from ghaziabad to mundka and another ghaziabad to bawana

Millions of peoples can take benefit & save the time for Rohini Helipad & Hindon Airport from bahadurgarh to ghaziabad directly and millions of people can touch this route and many areas can cover which have no proper connectivity like Rohini Sector 24, 23 , 22, 21, 35, 36, budh vihar, begumpur , nithari pratap vihar, ramesh Enclave rama vihar prem nagar, mubarakpur & kamrudding nagar etc also.

It has been around 25 years since delhi metro started it’s 1st route in Delhi. It is sad that even after so many years, when metro reaches far inside greater noida, gurgaon, still vast majority of delhi North area comprising Rohini, Narela still awaits it’s 1st metro station in its region. Metro planners in Delhi are busy developing multiple line in all parts except northern parts of delhi.
They should explain the reason behind negligence of these parts till date and immediately take necessary steps to bring these parts on metro map.

The proposed metro route to Bawana/ narela sector from Rithala metro stn. is not at all supporting the development of DDA sectors viz., Sector 28, 29 & especially sector 30 etc.
In the absence of the metro connectivity here, no one wants to settle in these sectors although possession has also been given by DDA~15-20 yrs back. Many have lost their hard earned savings investing in these sectors. Due to metro connectivity all the areas around Delhi NCR(includes Gurgaon & Noida) are coming up much faster in a short span of 4-5 years only. These sectors in Rohini were proposed for the welfare of comman man who needs a small house and the required transport to commute to their works. This is a very serious matter and by this message I would like to bring this to the knowledge of the concerned authorities to help in the development of sector 28, 29 & 30 which are litrally ignored by everyone.
Only metro connectivity can help here for the development and foot-fall which is need of the hour.
