DMRC Starts Trial Runs on Delhi Metro’s Pink Line
After completing track & electrification works on the up-line inside the Gurdwara Emergency Shaft, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on this Wednesday launched trial runs (testing) on the 14 km Mukundpur – Mayapuri section of the Delhi Metro’s 58.59 km Pink Line. When ready in 2018, this will become the longest line of the city, connecting Mukundpur to Shiv Vihar under the 160 km Phase 3 project, in a circular fashion primarily along the Ring Road.
This morning the DMRC ‘officially’ launched trial runs, possibly for the media, and a statement is expected to be released during the day. In the first round, DMRC’s engineers primarily observed the train’s interaction with the civil structure (tunnels & viaduct) to ensure there are no physical obstructions along the way.
Trial runs have commenced through 10 stations located at Mukundpur, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place, Shakurpur, Punjabi Bagh West, ESI, Rajouri Garden and Mayapuri. The 4.8 km Majlis Park – Netaji Subhash Place section is underground while the rest is elevated.

Stay tuned for an official statement from the DMRC!
Update: In the first round, DMRC will test only the 6.5 km Shakurpur – Mayapuri section. Here’s their press release:
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today started trial runs on the 6.5 kms stretch between the Shakurpur and Mayapuri elevated section of the upcoming 59 kms long Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar corridor (Line 7) of Phase 3, also known as the Pink Line. The Trial Runs were flagged off by Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC in the presence of DMRC Directors and senior DMRC officials. On completion, this corridor will become the longest corridor of the Delhi Metro Network.
During these trials, the interface of the Metro train will be checked to ensure that there is no physical infringement with civil infrastructure during the movement of the train on the track and also testing of various subsystems of coaches shall be done.

Update-2: Here’s what the down-line tunnel between Azadpur and Majlis Park looks like right now which prevents DMRC from launching proper trials, through both up and down lines, in the northern section between Shakurpur and Mukundpur.

How is this possible..how did the trains got here. U said it would take months to complete the gurudwara shaft for trains to exit the depot. Did they lift the trains with crane jst like magenta line. I want answers…TMRG.
Hi, via the up-line tunnel. Tunneling works on that got completed in November-December. See the post linked at the very top.
Work on covering up the shaft is still underway. They might not take the train back to the depot, through the shaft, for a long time.
So that means the gurdwara shaft was constructed only for the down line tunnel where S780 made the breakthrough in May 2017 ??
Also, why DMRC could not take the train back to the depot. If the up line tunnel is complete and trains can come from depot to tracks…they can go in reverse too.
As TMRG said, the shaft is still being covered up. It is very risky to pass a train through the shaft, as it may cause damage to the structure.
Adi – Shaft was built for both lines. 2 TBMs came out it in Nov & Dec freeing up the up-line while another 2 TBMs came out in March and April to free up the down-line – read all about it here.
Civil work is still ongoing at the shaft – see a recent image here showing the down-line. The last thing they’d want to do is run trains back & forth. Not only will it slow down works, but it can also lead to a collapse.
Hi TMRG ,
Is there any plan for mukundpur metro station . So that they can board metro directly from mukundpur rather than than going to majlis park metro station .
Yes – there’s a station at Mukundpur, close to the Outer Ring Road.
When can we expect Botanical Garden to Kalkaji for Magenta Line to Start?
Somewhere around September 17 if signaling work completes on time.
Wasn’t this supposed to be launched in June or July.
TMRG, passing by the viaduct and ramps on Ring Road, it seems that the electrification still isn’t complete even on Mukundpur – Mayapuri. So maybe this trial run was with a trainset being pushed by another loco, purely for civil infringement, with movement on its own power to be tested later.
The good news is that yesterday I saw an electrification equipment truck south of Mayapuri so the electrification gaps are slowly being filled in.
Thanks for the ground update! I saw a video and they definitely powered up the OHE network. No signs of any battery powered loco. In the 1st stage, they’ll only be testing the Shakurpur – Mayapuri section.
Yes, the entire elevated stretch from north of Mayapuri seems to be electrified. The problem is on the ramps. But I think work is active on the Majlis Park ramp – can’t say for sure, but the wires seem to be growing.
Nice to see the Platform Screen Doors !!!
I guess CMRS should make it mandatory for all new Metro stations to have PSDs installed in them before the are opened to public.
Some positive news regarding pink line after a long time.
Hey TMRG, the time shown on the comments/reply on your website is not right i think. Like i am posting this comment on 1:41 PM. See the time it shows. Nothing significant though, but just saying,
The time clock is in GMT !
When can we expect Magenta Line to Start?
partial or complete ?
Janakpuriwest to Igi domestic section
Around November 17*
*in ideal conditions.
Maybe nitpicking here but that flooring pattern looks awful. I know I know we have bigger issues here with the line getting delayed and all but this grey and black scheme looks quite dull. DMRC should have thought of something better for the new lines.
They want the passengers to fall asleep watching the floor. 🙂
Considering that half of the metro passengers are snoozing off, they are on the right track.
DMRC has updated the website about progress of phase-III corridors. Launch of botanical garden-kalkaji is shifted to September-17. It looks like in 2017, at best we will see launch of Botanical garden-kalkaji. Rest all is shifted to 2018.
Checked the website.
It mentions that the line will be opened in phases from October 2017 to March 2018.
So it looks like Botanical to Kalkaji has been pushed to October 2017 launch.
Exactly, the information on the DMRC website seems to mean that. Under Mangu Singh this kind of pushing deadlines every month has almost become a ritual. They were suppose to launch service on the Bot garden- kalkaji stretch in June. They just make announcements like that. So much lack of sincerity and commitment on the part of this organisation when it comes to announcement of targets. From bad it has come to the worst stage. And they have not maintained the website properly even. See they have not updated the pictures from the last several months. Pictures of December are still there. Thanks to TMRG for quenching the thirst.of many passionate observers.
Sreedharan sahab jaisey naa kabhi koi paida huay aur naa kabhi hongay. Its time we bring down our expectations to a normal progress rate. The golden era of the metroman has ended long back. So there shouldnt be any hue and cry for deadlines. Just expect it to complete.
True. Work is now too much delayed. Initially, there was news that pink line will start in 2015, then postponed to 2016. Then I heard April 2017, then June 2017. Now I am hearing 2018.
Mangu Singh ji magenta line ke liye milti hai sirf TARIKH PE TARIKH Work Progress report ya picture
bhi DMRC se update nahi ho sakti kya??? ek final date dijiye apne kaam per bharosa kar ke
Another extended deadline of magenta line has been put on DMRC website with no current images.
Feeling pity for DMRC.?

Its official, the bogus announcement of opening the Magenta line’s 11 km stretch in June has now been stretched to October. There is no explanation for 4 months extension. No excuse to make like the previous case of demonetisation and lack of workers (that too in India :/) . Once they have made an announcement that the stretch of Pink line from Delhi Cantt to Motibagh will be put to trial run on priority, probably in Jan-Feb, ’17, nothing happened. Then they made a claim to open the stretch from Majlis Park to Lajpat Nagar in december. Again they made an announcement that it may be pushed back to September. Now they have again kicked the ball to December ’17. This has become a joke. And as far as i could remember, the media-gimmick of test drive on Magenta line had started first in June, 2016. Test drive for 16 months before commission… wonderful— delhi metro has become.
When will trial run starts between NSP and Majlis park section of pink line ?????
Let the shaft work end. Hopefully in the next 3-4 months? Let’s see.
Congrats How many Commuters are expected to use the Pink line and Magenta line approx daily?
Ridership projections are always a little dodgy. From a current ridership of 28 lakh/day, they hope to achieve 40 lakh after Phase 3 is complete. Not sure about Pink, but I know they’ve projected a 4 lakh/day ridership for the Magenta Line after it stabilizes. Pink’s should be a little higher than that, perhaps somewhere around 6-7 lakh?
I am currently following this group & as per actual ground report I don’t see that DMRC is serious to start the current Phase 3 section at the earliest. Nowhere i see work going in full swing. Just skeletal work is going on. Is DMRC short on funds or are they not geeting appointment with PM to inaugrate current lines due to his busy schedule. DMRC current MD not a fraction of what Mr. Shreedharan was. he used to complete work before deadlines.
Mukundpur – Mayapuri section When to start for passenger???
