Bangalore Metro Trains Now Display Upcoming Metrolite’s Route
BEML trains operating on Bangalore Metro’s 24.20 km Green Line connecting Hesaraghatta Cross (Nagasandra) with Yelachenahalli are now equipped with new static display maps showcasing upcoming new stations of the Green Line and connecting new routes of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.
This includes 3 stations on the Green Line’s under construction 3.031 km northern extension at Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu (formerly Jindal) and Madavar (formerly BIEC), and 5 stations on the soon-to-be-opened 6.29 km southern extension at Doddakallasandra (formerly Krishna Leela Park) , Konankunte Cross (formerly Anjanapura Cross Road), Vajrahalli, Thalgattapura and Anjanapura (formerly Anjanapura Township). Also included is the under construction 19.143 km Yellow Line which will connect RV Road with Bommasandra.
Interestingly enough, the maps also showcase the longest of Bengaluru’s three proposed Metrolite lines – the roughly 30 km line on the western section of the Outer Ring Road connecting Hebbal – Goraguntepalya – Jayaprakash Nagar.
This new light rail is currently in the proposal stage and was assigned as the city’s Orange Line in 2019 by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). It is expected to primarily run at-grade within a dedicated fenced-in corridor and run elevated at major junctions – see details and an indicative route map of the project here.
This metrolite line’s origins lie in a comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) prepared by Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Ltd. which proposed the development of 3 corridors under Bangalore Metro’s upcoming Phase 3 project.
In March 2020, Karnataka’s Chief Minister announced during the budget speech that 2 metrolite corridors in West Bengaluru (ORR-West and Mysore Road Toll Gate – Kadabagere) will be developed through the public private partnership (PPP) model and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for both will be prepared. The current status of that document remains unknown, but it definitely has not been presented to the Karnataka state government.
A video with the new route map was shared by photojournalist Ashishkrishna Pendse on Twitter and can be viewed here.
Personally I think this is bizarre and will be highly confusing to both existing and new riders – like this Twitter follower. The Metrolite line is easily 7+ years, if not 10+ years, away from becoming commercially operational and prior to that it has many hoops to jump through before construction on it can even start.
Perhaps the BMRCL is trying to future-proof their trains to save some money? Or perhaps they’re trying to generate rider interest / buzz? If the latter is the case, then I would have preferred displaying a large future network map at key stations, just like how the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has done in the past. During my visits, I often joined other Dilliwalas to marvel at what’s cooking. I’m sure riders in Bengaluru would do too.

@TMRG: Can I please know the status of metro from biappanahalli to Whitefield?
There is no metro station till Whitefield
The construction has been stopped by the agency due to halting of fund release from the state.
Where specifically has work stopped?
Yellow line construction as stopped near nice road (White House, Maruti showroom) from more than 1 year. Pillars iron rods are rusted, hardy see 3 – 4 people work. Not sure why we don’t find people working in most of the sites. That’s why construction is on snail pace.
This summer they moved on to system installation (track-work, electrical & mechanical works, roof-work).

Hope Our Generation will live up to 31/12/43 to see these Projects the light of the Day
BMRCL should focus only on existing routes to make it more viable to public & should concentrate complete all its phases at earliest rather focussing on metrolite.
BMRCL should work with local Bengaluru suburb train routes which would be realistic very soon. Metrolite can shape & will take time, so better BMRCL, SWR, KSRTC, BMTC, Cabs, autos etc should join hands to make UMTA 4 public’s convenience
There is no bule line metro display
Green Line currently has no interchange planned with the Blue Line (or even the Pink Line) in Phase 2/2A/2B, so there’s no reason to show it.
BMRCL deserves every amount of trolling it gets daily
What a cheap comment.
Cheaper than the Defence Land BMRCL bought from the Church 🤪🤪
Its even cheaper to pretend not to know that BMRC has nothing to do with the dispute between church & defense.
Delhi metro is known for sucking up huge tax payers’ funds from other states. No wonder it keeps expanding while others get strangled, read this:
https://www.firstpost.com/india/when-money-for-other-states-is-given-to-delhi-it-resembles-the-imperial-seat-of-an-empire-2832392.html
The powers that be in Delhi are so shameless that they are prepared to even beg Delhi govt for Delhi metro’s expansion, even for unviable routes with funds from other states. Even fund expansion fully with the unviable routes without Delhi govt’s consent nor permission & are prepared to take over its huge losses.

DMRC’s ph3 is over 10 years now but still with some unfinished sections. It is past its deadline by more than 4 years, far worse than BMRC considering the financial, logistical support & quick approvals it gets.
Delhi metro goofed up airport express line big time, wasting some 1800 crores additional for “high speed” of 135km. Now, the line is running at 80km, that too after 6 months close down for repairs (constructed entirely by DMRC itself, not Reliance). DMRC lost the case against Reliance & had to pay heavy compensation – all with tax money from elsewhere.
Yet, there are cheap Delhi metro cheer leaders here who troll & want other metros to be trolled, though BMRC or other city metros would have done far better than DMRC if they had similar sort of support that DMRC gets. Shame on these trolls.
BMRCL is just a part or a cog in the whole setup. It should be successive state govts which are first responsible for such a delay.
Don’t want to post more than this because all state govts are behind those who question them
