Ranjit Begins Piling for Ahmedabad Metro’s Phase 2

Workers from Ranjit Buildcon today started piling work on Radesan Road – the first step of construction – for building Ahmedabad Metro’s 28.254 km Phase 2 project.

The team had started pile load testing works earlier this month for Package C2 (GNLU to Gandhinagar’s Sector-1), and has now moved to piling works, with the first bore at Pier P9 taking place today.

Ranjit Buildcon was awarded Phase 2’s 6.478 km Package C2 in late-2020 with a contract value of Rs. 417.90 crore. Their scope of work includes 5 stations at Raysan, Randesan, Dholakuva Circle, Infocity, and Sector-1. A small 0.679 km ramp will be built leading to a new depot at Indroda Circle.

I hear Afcons Infrastructure has subcontracted piling works to IB Infrastructure and a piling machine has arrived onsite to build the 14.36 km Package C1 section’s foundation between Motera Cricket Stadium towards GNLU with a spur towards GIFT City.

As shared earlier – So far roughly 6 km out of 39.259 km in Phase 1 has become operational due to a host of reasons, so Ahmedabad has now joined Bengaluru (2015-2017) in becoming the only two cities where two phases have or are being constructed simultaneously.

What about Sec 1 to Mahatma Mandhir Section? Which company has been awarded the contract?

When do you think the other sections of the Ahmedabad metro will open. For Agra metro- are there funding talks going on with any bank?

Not sure. Definitely not in 2021. On Line-1, tunnels are structurally ready. Sabarmati Bridge and Old High Court interchange station are the main time-consuming tasks. Work is underway.

Line-2 has faced contractor issues (IL&FS/Simplex) and I don’t know if they want to start the Gyaspur – Shreyas section as a stand-alone line or not. Will be loss making. I imagine in mid 2023-24, they’ll open the entire thing in one go. Let’s see.

Agra Metro – pretty sure they’re talking to different lenders, but I haven’t heard or seen a single report about it. It’s something I’ve been trying to find out.

Thanks for the details. Around 500 cr is allocated for Agra Metro in UP’s budget. I think some new construction tenders will be issued now.
