Phase 1 Information
39.26 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1 project with 2 lines and 32 stations was approved by India’s central government for construction on October 18, 2014 with an estimated cost of Rs. 10,773 crore.
Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1’s DPR (Detailed Project Report) was prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in February 2014 and can be viewed here.
Construction work on Phase 1 commenced in 2015 starting with a 6 km stretch of Line-1 between Apparel Park and Vastral Gam. This section was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2019 and opened to the public for commercial operations on March 6, 2019.
MEGA completed inviting construction bids for all other sections of Phase 1 in July 2016 and awarded the final civil contract in February 2017.
Tunneling work on Line-1’s 6.83 km underground section was completed by Afcons Infrastructure (Package UG-1) in February 2019 and by Larsen & Toubro (Package UG-2) in August 2020 using a total of 4 tunnel boring machines.
The rest of Phase 1 barring the 1.4 km Thaltej – Thaltej Gam section was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 30, 2022.
