8 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line-3’s UG-01, UG-03 & UG-05 Stations
After opening bids for UG-02 & UG-04 yesterday, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) today opened bids for Packages UG-01, UG-03 and UG-05 to reveal 8 construction firms (2 in a consortium) have bid for the civil construction of 18 underground stations of Chennai’s new 45.81 km Line-3.
While Chennai Metro Phase 2 project‘s Package UG-01 in North Chennai received 8 bids, UG-03 received 6 bids and UG-05 in Central Chennai received 7 bids.
Line-3 will connect Madhavaram Milk Colony and SIPCOT via 49 stations. Within that, 29 underground stations will be built between Madhavaram and Taramani Road Junction and connected by tunneling packages TU-01 and TU-02, which were awarded to Tata Projects and Larsen & Toubro in May 2021.
This is a re-tender of Line-3’s underground civil packages. In the first round, Tata Projects and Larsen & Toubro were declared as the lowest bidders for these 3 packages in October 2021.
CMRL re-invited tenders for their contracts in December 2021 with 4.25 to 4.7 year completion deadlines. They revised the bid submission deadline at least 14 times that I know of.
