Alstom Begins Production of Pune Metro Line-3’s 1st Train
Alstom Transport India on Friday formally started manufacturing 22 Metropolis train-sets in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh for Pune Metro’s Line-3 which will connect Megapolis (Hinjewadi) with Civil Court (Shivajinagar).
The city’s new 23.3 km long Line-3 with 23 elevated stations is being developed by PMRDA on PPP mode through a 35 year concession agreement signed with Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. (PITCMRL) or Puneri Metro, a special purpose venture of Tata’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
Details are a little sketchy to me, but PITCMRL had apparently awarded Alstom Transport India with the line’s electrical and mechanical (E&M) and rolling stock contract in Q4 2022. I’m not even sure if they had invited bids from rolling stock manufacturers.
Tata Projects Ltd (TPL) is responsible for the line’s civil construction work and its workers in February began tying rebar for piers in February 2022 and launching precast segments in July. As of February 16, they had completed casting 242 piers.
Puneri Metro will operate 3 coach Alstom train-sets in formations of DMC+TC+DMC where DMC = Driving Motor Car and TC = Trailer Car. Trains will be stabled and maintained at Maan Village.
The final design of Pune’s Alstom trains hasn’t been revealed, but should be out in the next 6 months. I’m super curious to see how they’ll look.

No details on how many trains will operate?
22 trains of 3-coaches ordered. We’ll know their operation game plan only closer to the start of ops.
And what about Delhi Metro phase 4 Train construction. Is it started by Alstom or not?
It will be 1 year now and still no glimpse of the Metro rakes for Pune Metro Line 3, any idea by when we can have a look?
