Pune Metro’s Trial Runs Extended to Ramwadi Station (Reach 3)

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) on Friday night extended trial runs (train testing) on a 5.94 km route from Ruby Hall Clinic Station to Ramwadi Station on Reach 3 of the 31.24 km Pune Metro Phase 1 project.

MahaMetro’s team operated one of their 3 coach Titagarh train-sets at 10 kmph from Vanaz (Hill View) Depot all the way to Ramwadi in eastern Pune.

As always, the sole objective of the first run was to check for Schedule of Dimensions (SOD) clearances and observe the train’s interaction with the civil structure to ensure there are no physical obstructions along the way.

This is the final section of the 14.665 km Aqua Line left to open up for commercial operations. Besides 4 elevated stations at Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyani Nagar and Ramwadi, it includes a 310 meter long bridge over Mula-Mutha River near Bund Garden.

This section’s viaduct was built by J Kumar Infraprojects through a Rs. 388.58 crore contract awarded in August 2018. Stations en route were built by Afcons – SPCPL JV through a contract awarded in July 2018.

Architectural finishing works are underway inside all stations and whether they’re completed or not, this section of the Phase 1 project will definitely open up in 2024 prior to the Lok Sabha elections.

In other exciting news, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd. (PITCMRL) working on 23.3 km Line-3 this week commissioned a special launching gantry (LG) to lift and place station elements. Here’s a snap from Balewadi Stadium Station where a L-shaped girder is being lifted into place:
