RVNL Wins Nagpur Metro Phase 2 C-06’s Contract for 10 Stations

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) was today declared as the lowest bidder to construct civil package C6 of the 43.8 km Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro or MMRCL)

The scope of this contract involves the construction of 10 elevated metro stations on the 19.4 km Aqua Line‘s new 6.6 km western extension (Reach 3A) and 5.5 km eastern extension (Reach 4A).

Reach 4A (Prajapati Square to Transport Nagar) consists of 3 stations at Pardi, Kapsi Khurd and Transport Nagar, while Reach 3A (Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna) consists of 7 elevated stations at Hingna Mount View, Rajiv Nagar, Wanadongri, APMC, Raipur, Hingna Bus Station, Hingna.

Maha-Metro had invited bids for all 10 stations’ construction in January 2024 with a Rs. 307.34 crore estimate and 900 day deadline. Technical bids were opened in March 2024 to reveal just 2 bidders: RVNL and YFC Projects – BBG Infrastructure JV.

YFC – BBG JV’s bid didn’t meet the tender’s conditions and was disqualified, which automatically made RVNL the front-runner for the contract even before their financial bid was opened.

RVNL’s Bid: Rs. 255,00,78,283 (Rs. 255 crore)

RVNL’s bid of Rs. 255 crore was well below Maha-Metro’s estimate of Rs. 307.34 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period.

When awarded, RVNL will likely subcontract work out to a civil construction company as seen in other metro projects, and I’m curious to see who it goes to. The assigned contractor will work closely with Enia Design – Mahendra Raj Consultants JV – the assigned Detailed Design Consultants (DDC) for these stations.

Package C-06 is so far RVNL’s fourth major win in Phase 2 after Package C-01 (Reach 2A’s 6.92 km viaduct), Package C-05 (Reach 1A & 2A’s 8 stations & viaduct) and Package C-08 (6 stations on Reach 2B). See a list of all Nagpur Metro Phase 2 packages (civil & systems) and their status over here.
