Godrej & MR Awarded Bangalore Metro ORR Line Stations’ Finishing Contracts

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL)’s updated website indicates the operator in Q4 2024 awarded Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. and MR Constructions with 56 km Bangalore Metro Blue Line‘s station finishing contracts.

The city’s new Blue Line by BMRCL is being developed in Phase 2A (19 km ORR Line) and Phase 2B (37 km Airport Line) to connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations.

Within the ORR Line, BMRCL divided its 13 stations into two packages for not just civil construction but also for station architectural finishing and public health engineering works – each with a 16 month completion deadline.

Station Finishing Package A1

MR Constructions on December 16 was awarded a Rs. 65.57 crore contract for 6 elevated stations at Central Silk Board, HSR layout, Agara, Ibbalur, Bellandur and Kadubeesanahalli. All 6 stations are under construction by Afcons Infrastructure.

I hear BMRCL’s original estimate was Rs. 69.55 crore.

Station Finishing Package A2

Godrej & Boyce on November 8 was awarded a Rs. 66.77 crore contract for 7 elevated stations at Kodibeesanahalli, Marathahalli, ISRO, Doddanekundi, DRDO sports complex, Saraswathi Nagar (Mahadevpura) & KR Puram. All 7 stations are under construction by Shankaranarayana Constructions (SNC).

I hear BMRCL’s original estimate was Rs. 79.12 crore.

As shared in the past – with the way things are going, at this time I see Phase 2A opening up no sooner than Q4 2026 and wouldn’t be surprised if things get pushed out to 2027.

Like the Yellow Line, the Blue Line will face train-related delays since the first batch of BEML trains from rolling stock contract 5RS-DM will most likely go towards servicing Phase 2’s 21.38 km Pink Line which is in a more advanced stage of construction. The first of 53 trains from BEML’s local Bengaluru complex in CV Raman Nagar is expected to roll out in Q4 2025 – view design here.

A list of all civil and systems contractors can be viewed here for Phase 2A and here for Phase 2B.

Next KA election is in 2028 so we will surely see 2A open by then and maybe full 2B too.

It would be better to ensure that Phase2A is completed first. This will help lakhs on people working on the ORR. The revenue also can start fast.
The phase 2B innaguration should not be clubbed with the opening of 2A since it might be delayed too much
