URCC Wins Bangalore Metro Veerannapalya Station’s Contract for Pending Work

URC Constructions Pvt. Ltd. was today declared as the lowest bidder for the balance construction works of Veerannapalya Station on Bangalore Metro’s 57 km Blue Line by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL).

This new under construction line of Bangalore Metro’s Phase 2A (ORR Line) and Phase 2B (Airport Line) projects will connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations on the Outer Ring Road and national highway NH-44.

Veerannapalya Station’s construction contract was originally awarded to NCC Ltd. in November 2021 as part of Phase 2B’s 11.003 km Package P1 connecting KR Puram – Hebbal (Chainage 0.000 m to 10072.000m) with 8 elevated stations at Kasturi Nagar, Horamavu, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout, Nagawara, Veerannapalya and Kempapura.

The construction of Veerannapalya Station was offloaded from NCC’s scope due to a severe delay in shifting an underground gas pipeline belonging to Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) between 2022 – 2023. In fact in December 2022, construction material for its relocation was stolen from the site which added to delays.

With that pipeline relocated, BMRCL invited bids for balance construction work on January 17 with a 1 year construction deadline and an estimate that I hear might be Rs. 35.74 crore. This was a limited one-stage tender with just financial bids requested from firms.

Financial Bid Values

FirmBid (Rs. Crore)
URC Construction Pvt. Ltd.35.74
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.57.02

BMRCL’s Brief Scope: Construction of Veerannapalya Elevated Metro Station (Balance works) including allied works for Bengaluru Metro Rail Project Phase-2B-P1.

BMRCL’s estimate remains unconfirmed so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. Rs. 35.74 crore is a drop in the ocean so a contract will definitely be awarded in the coming weeks. BMRCL took just 2 weeks from publishing the tender notice to arriving at this stage and appears to be in a mood to waste no further time.

Veerannapalya Station’s site is located south-west of Manayata Tech Park between portal piers AP271 and AP273. Here are some snaps shot in May 2024 via Azhar286 on skyscrapercity showing the progress made on the station’s RHS portal piers:
