Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s 7th OWG Launched over WDFC near Vadodara

M G Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MGCPL) earlier this month completed launching their seventh open web girder (OWG) bridge for the 508.17 Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project.

This 70 meter long steel bridge for GAD-62 on MAHSR’s Package P1(B) was slowly pushed into position in 13 hours across the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC)’s tracks just south of Vadodara, Gujarat.

The exact launch site is located at Khalilpur village (view on Google Maps) between MAHSR’s chainage KM 385+000.

The bridge weighs 674MT and is 13m tall. It was fabricated by Vrinda Engineers in Durgapur, West Bengal with 28,800 TTHS bolts, C5 painting, elastomeric bearings and has a 100-year design life.

India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) had awarded M G Contractors with bridge Package P-1(B)‘s Rs. 549.67 crore contract in September 2021.

P1B’s scope involves the launch of 4 PSC bridges and 7 steel truss bridges within 237.1 km civil Package C-4 (Vadodara – Zaroli) which is under construction by Larsen & Toubro.

An estimated 70,865 MT of steel will be used to fabricate 28 bridges for India’s first Bullet Train project. With this development, 4/7 OWG bridges have been launched for Package P1(B) and 3/4 bridges for Package P1(C).

• GAD-31 (99.6m, 1486 MT) – over Vadodara – Ahmedabad Railway Line near Nadiad for P1(C) in April 2024
• GAD-1967 (130m, 3098 MT) – over Delhi – Mumbai Expressway near Vadodara for P1(C) in June 2024
• GAD-68 (100m, 1464 MT) – over Bhilosa Switching Substation near Silvassa for P1(B) in August 2024 (this post!)
• GAD-28 (60m, 645 MT) – over Bajva – Chhayapuri Railway Line near Vadodara for P1(C) in October 2024
• GAD-12 (100M, 2000 MT) – over WDFC and Surat – Baroda Railway Line near Surat for P1(B) in January 2025 (this post!)
• GAD-62 (70M, 674 MT) – over WDFC near Vadodara in April 2025 (this post!)
